Leicester will win the Premier League title and Manchester United will pinch fourth spot from Manchester City to clinch Champions League qualification, according to a Sky Sports study.

Sky Sports calculated the average results from April and May for current Premier League teams since 1992/93, including results from lower leagues in previous seasons.

Tottenham would end the season as runners-up, their highest league position in 53 years, ahead of north London rivals Arsenal in third.

Manchester City's manager-in-waiting Pep Guardiola would oversee a Europa League campaign in his first season in charge, while West Ham would finish in sixth place - three points above Chelsea (who on average take the most points from the final two months) and Liverpool in their final season at Upton Park.

Rafa Benitez would fail to mastermind Newcastle's great escape from relegation - and could well look to invoke his own great escape from Tyneside via a contractual get-out clause.

Meanwhile, north-east rivals Sunderland would avoid the drop on goal difference by just two goals, with Norwich facing an immediate return to the Championship.

Aston Villa would also be playing Championship football next season after 27 seasons in England's top tier, finishing 10 points adrift at the bottom of the league - despite almost doubling their points tally from 16 points to 26 in their final seven games.
