Le Tiss: Thinks Diouf is a duff buy
It's a dangerous game, making pre-season predictions. But with just days to go before the big kick-off in the Premier League, the Soccer Saturday gang have gallantly agreed to put their necks - and their credibility - on the line.
Who will lift the Premier League trophy in May? Which manager has made the shrewdest buy? Who is most likely to do a Derby?
And which member of the panel has been hogging the sun-loungers all summer?
Read on as the finest pundits on the box use their encyclopaedic football knowledge to predict the new season's stars, strugglers and stragglers, as well as give each other some gentle ribbing!
Southampton idol Matt Le Tissier looks into the future - but are his predictions saintly or sinful?
I think Scolari will make a big difference at Chelsea. They got very close to Manchester United last season with not such a great manager and now that they've got a very good manager in charge I think they'll pip them. I know he hasn't managed in the Premier League before but he's got enough experience from around the world to be able to adapt to the English game fairly quickly. He's worked with top players and I think he'll get the best out of the Chelsea squad.

It will be a hell of a job for somebody to break into the top four so I think it will be the usual suspects again. I'd go for Manchester United in second, Liverpool in third and Arsenal fourth. I think the signing of Robbie Keane will be key for Liverpool and will lift them above Arsenal, whose lack of investment could cost them a little bit. Losing guys like Mathieu Flamini and Alexander Hleb won't help their cause much either.
Spurs have spent a lot of money and they've bought some quality players so they're my tip for fifth and an outside bet for the top four. Juande Ramos has got a few months under his belt and he can kick on after a good start. Modric was a good signing and will make a difference, but if they lose Berbatov and fail to replace him with quality then they might not even make the top seven. The other contenders are Man City - especially if they land Santa Cruz - and then Aston Villa. I think Everton will struggle to challenge for that position because they've lost a few players and haven't brought many in.
A lot of people are saying Newcastle are going to finish in the bottom half, but they're the sort of team who might get some momentum going. I don't think they're going to be up there battling for trophies, but I don't think they'll be scrapping it out at the bottom. And with Kevin Keegan at the helm, they have the potential to challenge for a European spot.

I think everyone is unanimous in their view that Hull and Stoke will go down. I'd like to see the promoted sides go on a bit of a run, but looking at their squads it's going to be a long hard slog for them. Then it could be one club from six or seven for the other spot and if I was to stick my neck on the line I'd go for Bolton. They got away with it a bit last season and spending £11m on Johan Elmander seems a lot for somebody who isn't really a big name. West Brom have the biggest chance of the three coming up, but I don't think they'll be comfortable by any stretch of the imagination. Fulham have bought a lot of players but may find it hard to gel quickly and I'm not convinced by the players that Sunderland have brought in either. There'll be a few teams in the scrap.
I think Cristiano Ronaldo will struggle to repeat last season, especially as he's missing the start of the campaign with an injury, so I think it's between Fernando Torres and Emannuel Adebayor. I'd say Adebayor is the value bet out of those two and if you're looking for a dark horse then Jermaine Defoe could be worth a punt. I think he'll enjoy playing with Peter Crouch and picking up a few assists and he'd be a good outside bet.
I'd go for Robbie Keane at Liverpool because he's such a clever footballer and I think he'll link up really well with Fernando Torres. That looks like a really good combination because Keane can see a pass and that will benefit Torres with his runs and his pace. Furthermore, Keane knows where the goal is himself, having joined the Premier League's 100 goals club and that could be the signing that makes Liverpool a bit more dangerous.

There's quite a few that have baffled me, but the one that stands out was Sunderland spending £2.5million on El Hadji Diouf. As a forward he has got a shocking goalscoring record and Sunderland really need somebody who's going to get into double figures. It's surprised me that Roy Keane has gone for somebody who's averaging about one goal in every 15 games.
That's got to be Alan McInally because once the season ended and there was no work to be done he'll have spent all of his time on a beach, playing golf or drinking for Scotland. Jeff will be a close runner-up though. He's been known to fluctuate a little bit in the weight department and every time I've texted him over the summer he's been in the Caribbean or somewhere else in the world. I imagine he's spent a couple of months eating and drinking too much.

Shane Gregory, i guess we live in dreamland ey. An easy point at old trafford and we should have had more. Same old manc's having to wait til we were down to 10 men to scrape a draw. King Kev is tactically brilliant, undervalue him and newcastle at your peril.

arsene wenger needs to stop playing games buying all the young players its ok if were winning things but were not in 2004 when we won the leugue we had lots of experiance but if we keep players like rosisky adebayor vanpersie fabregas fit then we could win something but i still think we need 1 more centre midfielder to help fabregas we should of kept gilberto silva he would of had a good season

Just saw the 40% favourite tag on Man Utd winning the league and I got to say that they don't look the same team without Ronaldo let alone Quiroz's input .Once again Arsenal seems to be written off but if you were to award any team (including Real Madrid & Barcelona) for playing the most attractive football you got to say its Arsenal for the League & that's coming from a Newcastle supporter.Hopefully with Scolari at Chelsea's helm we'll see some great players doing great things and playing to their potential of great attacking football!

bolton to go down maybe but last season they played 10 games more than the other teams in the bottom six due to the uefa cup ,sold anelka didnt win first 10 games lost all the back room staff which big sam took to newcastle but still stayed up do any of the other teams that have come up have that type of bottle dont think so ! As for Blackburn may have simlar problems at the start of the season but if they keep santa Cruz will have no problems solid at the back and can score goals predict mid table. As for WBA play nice football but no premiership striker and may ship in a few goals meite is not the answer and goes missing when the going gets tough

Most pundits/experts are saying that the gooners will be trophyless as you cant win with kids . . . . . Didnt they say that when fergie cleared out the old guard from utd years ago? Domestically Arsenal will do just fine - ive a feeling 1 maybe 2 last minute signings may be in the offing . . . . . maybe Henry? As for the holy grail of all the european cup again it will alude us until we can compete financially with the big boys Mr W qill go for the kids - as simple as that. T.

I'd like to remind everybody that Tottenham were tipped for greatness last year and wound up in the bottom half of the table. With Keane gone and Berbatov on his way to Old Trafford, I can't see new boy Modric holding it together on his own. There is quality at Spurs, but I don't think there is enough yet. Liverpool look like a team that will be able to push a little higher in the top 4 this season. I can see the partnership between Keane and Torres being pivotal in theoir success. If Keane can tap into the chemistry between Torres and Gerrard, they will be very hard to keep at bay. I think both Man City and Everton will struggle this season. The apparent disarray at City could cause big problems, especially if Hughes' players are getting sold out from underneath him. Everton haven't really moved much in this transfer window, though there are still two weeks to go, but they have a small squad already. For my beloved toon, I see no reason why a 6th or 7th place finish would be out of reach. There is still quality at St James Park and the new additions, barring Coloccini, have shone in pre season matches. I think little Danny Guthrie will surprise everybody and a rejuvinated Damien Duff looks almost like a new addition to the club. Don't write us off. We'll be fighting. Man Utd to finish top, then Chelsea, Liverpool and possibly Arsenal. Possibly not. Hull, Stoke and either Blackburn or Bolton to sink into the Championship.

JASY....I THINK PRE -SEASON DOES MATTER, IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THE SQUAD TO BUILD UP AND BE READY FOR THE START OF THE SEASON. LOOK AT LIVERPOOL THE OTHER NIGHT, FOR ALL THEIR TALENT THEY LOOKED AWFUL. YOU THINK YOU ARE GOING TO OLD TRAFFORD TO BEAT MAN UTD WITH THE SQUAD YOU HAVE, JUST BECAUSE KEEGAN HAS HAD TIME TO SETTLE IN!!! I LIKE NEWCASTLE, A GOOD CLUB WITH WONDERFUL SUPPORT AND HARD TO BEAT AT HOME, A PLACE TO DREAD PLAYING AT - BUT THE SQUAD YOU HAVE IS NOWHERE NEAR GOOD ENOUGH. YOU WONT LIKE IT BUT I THINK KEANE HAS MADE A FEW SHREWD SIGNINGS AND SUNDERLAND MAY GIVE YOU A RUN FOR YOUR MONEY THIS YEAR. AT THE END OF THE DAY SPURS HAVE MADE IT INTO EUROPE 3 YEARS IN A ROW, WON A CUP AND HAVE BOUGHT IN PLAYERS CONSISTANTLY THAT HAVE BEEN WELL SOUGHT AFTER. I DONT SEE NEWCASTLE BEING ABLE TO ATTRACT A PLAYER LIKE BENTLEY/MODRIC. NEWCASTLE ARE IN THE SAME POSITION SPURS WERE IN ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO, FLOUNDERING, TRYING TO BUY PLAYERS THAT THEY THOUGHT WOULD GIVE THEM AN IMMEDIATE ANSWER TO THEIR PROBLEMS BUT FAIL.

After last seasons disappointment I'm not saying anything but I hope Spurs do far better this year. Seen them a couple of times pre-season inc going out to Rotterdam for the Feyenoord tournament. We played extremely well and looked leagues ahead of the other teams. I hope we finish top 4 but I'm not going to bet on it. I'd like us to finish above Liverpool as I get fed up with stupid scouse fans saying how wonderful their club is, and for Robbie Keane to get egg in his face! I think it will be the normal top 4 with Chelsea just winning it. Obvioulsty would like to see Arsenal win nothing again which I think will happen. Come on you Spurs

I would just like to point out to kenneth eze that they wont be the first team to defend the champions league real have. Nd i would have to agree that chelsea will win the league nd i dont feel that ronaldo will do aswell again this year, tottenham wont make the top 4 because while he may be good berbatov dosent deleiver week in week out just every few. Nd liverpool winning the league is unrealistic cause i dont think keane nd torres will be as great a strike partnership as everyone thinks. As for hleb being a big loss that is a lie mainly cause he scored hardly any goals nd didnt contribute to many assists either nd flamini is not as big a loss as viera was. he gave us one good season from the four or so he was at arsenal, pundits wrote us off last year nd i think we could win it if we dont get to many injuries or at least second but with injuries third is achievable nd one of the trophies. So i think it will be prem for chelsea, league cup for liverpool, tottenham or chelsea, fa cup arsenal or man u nd the champions league chelsea, liverpool, real nd i would like to say arsenal but i dont think we will. i do hate saying chelsea will win so much but they have the strongest replacements as they showed last year.

Le Tis has got it wrong! Man U will definitely win the league. No doubt about it. Our squad has got the perfect blend of youth and experience and it helps a lot. I reckon Scolari's impact in the Premier League will be to wind up the other managers. Arsene Wenger is normally cool so he better watch out! As far as the rest is concerned, Man City will do a good job as 'Sparky' is a class manager. Everton will struggle but not much. At the bottom half, Bolton will go down coz they have spent big on unknown players. Stoke have no experienced premier league players in their squad and WBA will be hammered if they try to play attacking football. The Premier League is very different from the Championship so they better be careful. Hull mite be a surprise package. But all I care is Man U winning the league and even the quadruple! So don't call me arrogant!!!!

I see yet again Bolton are one of the 3 favourites to go down, and quite suprisingly by one of the pundits who usually defends bolton and quite often has something good to say about us, but nevertheless we are still one of the teams mentioned. We had quite possible one of the worst starts in the league last year, not including derby. And yet here we are getting ready to start another season in the premier league. We are alot stronger in the team this year and Megson has bought well for the money that we have. I think elmander will turn out to be a revelation for us this season as he is someone who can crack a shot from any distance and from the looks of it will Megson will be successful in changing our style of play this season and actually buying and playing wingers Taylor on the left and Riga on the right. We have a solid base with Cahill being a class buy last season and i think he will be our next captain in years to come and also he should get and england call up. I was a bit sceptical about the signing of muamba early in pre-season but i firmly believe he will be the rock in midfield which will allow Nolan to get forward more and provide Elmander and Davies with more support. I think we did the right thing in selling Diouf, even though he was our saving grace on many occasions last season and season before, he no doubt still has a bad attitude and i cant wait to see what Roy Keane does when he makes his first saliva slip, maybe he will run onto the pitch and take him out. All in all i seriously believe top ten is a possibility again this season. Come on the Whites.

Lots of good comments on here, from mainly fans at least. Some of the comments made by the pundits make you wonder why they have been given the title in the first place. The old addage that good footballers dont make good managers must now be attributed to "Pundits" also. 1. Chelsea, 2. Man Utd, these two will compete this league and dominate by a country mile, though i envisage Chelsea opening a gap on Utd early on and maintaining it. The next places are between 4 teams, Arsenal, Liverpool, Portsmouth and possibly Tottenham.

Between Chelsea and Utd. It will all depend on how soon Ronaldo returns and the crowd reaction. My team Everton will stuggle. Either the board have let Moyes down, again as in 03 04, 04 05 and 05 06 or Moyes has made one huge balls up allowing players to leave when he clearly hasn't got any replacements lined up. The continued talk of Moutinho is perplexing as Everton aren't prepared to pay what the ckub demand for there captain and the chairman says the transfer is dead. I dont even fancy us to finish in the top half, and after everything Moyes has achieved over the last 4 years that is criminal, Kenwright should be hanging his head in shame. I think Spurs stand the best chance of breaking into the top 4, but it will be difficult. As for the teams going down I fancy Hull, Stoke and West Brom.
