Swanton

In a brand new feature The Rugby Club goes behind the scenes in the Guinness Premiership to reveal the truth about the stars on the pitch.

In the first week we travel to Sale Sharks to meet media manager Dave Swanton who has plenty of dirt to dish after being at the club for eight years.

Most Vain?

I would have to say Steve Hanley. If we were on TV Steve would actually go and have his highlights done. There was a hairdressers down the road from Haywood Rd and he would sit in the window and have them done. He almost caused a number of accidents when other players used to arrive for training to see him sat there having his hair done.

Most superstitious?

There are several. Richard Wigglesworth puts on a particular sock on first. It was quite funny when I was doing the player bios and he told me he put his left sock on before his boot. I looked at him and said doesn't everyone? What he meant was he always puts his left sock on before his right one.

Biggest Schemers?

Jason Robinson and Steve Diamond. We had been to Wasps and lost in the last ten minutes of the game. There were all these kids outside waiting for Jason's autograph. Jason had got a few bangs and because of the loss we all wanted to get away quick. Steve had the idea to use the wheelie bins that we take the kit in. Our kit man put all the kit in black bags and Jason Robinson was wheeled in the team bus in the wheelie bin.

Funniest Story?

Philippe Saint Andre went out for a drink one Friday night with Brian Kennedy. On Saturday he came into my office sat in a chair and put his head in his hands. He said: "Swanny I am ruined, I drink wine and I went out with Brian Kennedy and I drank whiskey and I cannot remember where I left my car!"
