Gregory: in memory

Sky Sports have joined forces with engage to make sure the memory of Mike Gregory lives on.

From this weekend in Super League the Man of the Match award will be made in memory of the former Warrington and Wigan hero, who sadly lost his battle with illness in November.

The award, which will be given to the best player in each of our televised, will also carry a prize of £200, courtesy of Sky Sports and Super League XIII sponsors, engage Mutual.

The initial £100 will go to the Rugby Football League Benevolent Fund, while the same amount will be donated to a charity of the player's choice.

The first award will be made after the St Helens v Warrington game in Round Two and announcing the award on Boots 'n' All, Eddie Hemmings felt it was a fitting tribute to one of the game's greats.

"Mike Gregory was a great player and an inspirational leader - a legend of our game," he said.

"It is right that the Man of the Match award this season should be a tribute to him and as part of it we can support the Rugby Football League's Benevolent Fund and other charities chosen by the winning players.

"We thank engage for their generosity in helping provide the money to be donated."
