Revista Predictor: Four-way title battle in La Liga predictions

Last Updated: 23/10/17 8:46am

We now have a four-way title battle in the #RevistaPredictor, with the value of one correct goal-scorer covering the first four experts after La Liga Matchday 9. David Garrido, who is lagging behind and propping up the table, gives us the update...

Yeah, alright alright. I'm no expert. I never claimed I was. I mean, I always used inverted commas, didn't I? That's enough of a disclaimer.

Okay, so it was an awful week for me compared to everyone else who significantly boosted their tally. Still, we're only a quarter of the way through the season, and it's a marathon not a sprint...

MATCH 1 - LEVANTE 1-1 GETAFE

David Phillips has been the revelation of Matchday 9, and he started as he meant to go on by getting his score prediction exactly right - four points for him, and a point apiece for Rob Palmer and Jon Driscoll for going for the draw.

No-one picked Faycal Fajr as the first goalscorer, as neither side really improved on their mid-table position in the table.

But both of these promoted teams are doing well so far in their bid to stay in La Liga, and perhaps this match was more about not losing than going all out to win.

MATCH 2 - VILLARREAL 4-0 LAS PALMAS

Now, you've got to feel for Jon here. Into the fourth minute of four added on at the Estadio de la Ceramica, he was on for the perfect 10 points.

Cedric Bakambu had opened the scoring, and Villarreal were leading 3-0...only for Nicola Sansone to score again. Just the seven points then for Mr Driscoll, with Messrs Keatings and Phillips also picking Bakambu to score the first and continue his prolific form. Big points won here.

Villarreal look to have found their form, but Las Palmas under Pako Ayestaran are leaking goals badly, conceding 12 in their last three games since he arrived.

MATCH 3 - CELTA VIGO 0-1 ATLETICO MADRID

Another perfect score prediction from David P as he was the only pundit to pick the 1-0 away win, although we probably didn't expect Kevin Gameiro to start, let alone score first.

Points here also for me, Jon and Kevin, as we all went for an Atletico victory. As the scoreline would suggest, it was tough-going at Balaidos for Diego Simeone's side who remain six points behind leaders Barcelona but have serious questions to answer.

So Kevin Keatings is now out in front on his own, but the biggest mover is David Phillips, who climbs from fourth to second, leapfrogging Jon and Rob in the process, and just a point behind Kevin.

Rob drops from a share of the lead to fourth, while the less said about my position and how far adrift I am, the better...

To your predictions, and a number of you earned the plaudits this week...

Practically everyone went for Cedric Bakambu in the Villarreal-Las Palmas game, but @whoabtown and @AlLaLiga got exactly right scores in the other two matches too, so that means a quite ridiculous 15 points to both of you.

It's also worth mentioning @alex_farrar and @Madridista_VP who picked Bakambu in a Villarreal victory plus one other exact score prediction (11 points), while @DowleBF got the same total - a perfect 10 from the Levante-Getafe match, plus he picked Villarreal to win. Well done everyone.
