US Open champion Andy Murray is aiming to end a long season on a high at this week's BNP Paribas Masters and the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Murray takes on Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu in his opening match of the Paris event on Wednesday and is feeling strong ahead of the final two tournaments of the year.

World number one Roger Federer, who is resting, and long-term injury absentee Rafael Nadal are the only big names missing from the French capital.

"Roger (Federer) is not playing this week in order to rest for London but everyone else is here so it will be interesting to see how guys perform in London after Paris," Murray told Sky Sports News.

"It's good to get the last two tournaments of the year back-to-back at the end of the year, it means we get a longer off to rest and recover and get ourselves ready for the new year."

Murray is making his return to action for the first time since missing five match points on the way to defeat against Novak Djokovic in the final of the Shanghai Masters.

"I wasn't feeling particularly well over in Asia so it was important to get rid of all the niggles and try and feel as best I can for the last couple of tournaments of the year," added the Scot.

"I was a bit tired after the Asia stretch last year, I feel much better than I have done coming here in previous years and I hope I can have a good run."

The eight-man ATP Tour World Finals takes place at the O2 in London from November 5 to 12 .
