Cricket Writers on TV: England v Sri Lanka, T20 Blast and more on the agenda

The T20 pyrotechnics have kept us entertained over recent weeks, but it is great to sit back and become absorbed by a quality Test match.

That has been easy to do over the last few days, with the opening gambits of England’s first Test against Sri Lanka producing a sticky start for the hosts, followed by a return to form for the under-fire Matt Prior and a double century for Joe Root.

The Cricket Writers on TV panel – Stephen Brenkley (Independent), Dean Wilson (Mirror) and Scyld Berry (Telegraph) – will assess the crunch moments at Lord’s and preview day four when they convene around the breakfast table on Sunday morning.

England and Sri Lanka are not the only sides battling it out in the five-day arena at the moment, though, with West Indies and New Zealand in the midst of a three-match series in the Caribbean.

The Kiwis won the opening encounter by 188 runs, thanks in large part to the strokeplay of first-innings centurions Kane Williamson and Jake Neesham and the devilish spin of Mark Craig, who collected eight wickets on Test debut.

CWOT host Paul Allott and his pals could turn their attentions to that series, the ongoing T20 blast – in which Hampshire and Worcestershire are currently flying high – and the impending visit of India to England.

But whatever the panel sinks its teeth into it will be entertaining, so watch Cricket Writers on TV, 9am, Sunday, Sky Sports 2 or, alternatively, download the podcast after the show.
