Lee Barrett impressed at Woodlands Lakes Fishery in Thirsk at the weekend to secure his place in the Fish 'O' Mania grand final.
Barrett from Horbury, West Yorkshire drew peg 7 and would have fancied chances on the popular Partridge Lake and came up trumps with a total carp weight of 123lbs 7oz, with his biggest coming in at over 9lbs to secure the honours.
Fishing long on pellet up in the water, Barrett performed steadily throughout the day to secure a lead of over 35lbs and he'll now be desperate to shine in the final on July 13 having qualified once before.
It was another good day for 2005 Fish 'O' Mania champion Marc Jones, although not quite good enough, as he finished third with 76lbs 14oz on the Skylark Lake behind second-placed Graham Dack. Romford taxi driver Dack was drawn on peg 2 on Curlew Lake and, after switching to a corn and pellet attack tight down the margin put together a weight of 86 lb 10 oz of carp, with his biggest fish weighing over 17 lb.
Fourth spot went to Ashley Smith, from Wakefield, who racked up a weight of 58lbs 10oz from peg 27 on Skylark. Fifth went to Fish 'O' Mania regular and former champion Steve Cooke from Retford, drawn on peg 10 on Partridge (56lbs 14oz).
The final qualifier for this year takes place on June 26 at Lindholme Lakes Fishery, Epworth with 300 anglers booked in for more angling drama.
