Sami Zayn blindsided Kevin Owens to pick up a vital victory on the final episode of SmackDown before Fastlane.
Zayn showed a mean streak to take out his supposed "best friend" with a Helluva Kick as they were leading a two-against-one attack on WWE champion AJ Styles in a fatal five-way.
The match was made by SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon after the heel duo had interrupted Styles' non-title match against Dolph Ziggler, with Baron Corbin also added to the mix.
Zayn has previously said he would "lie down" for Owens and allow him to win the WWE title at Fastlane, live on Sky Sports Box Office on Sunday night, but those plans could now be in doubt.
Mahal presents title case with Orton win
Jinder Mahal enhances his claim for a place in the United States title match at Fastlane with a win over Randy Orton, albeit with a major assist from a distracting Bobby Roode.
The Viper was in control of the match when he launched Mahal to ringside, where he knocked over the US champion at the commentary desk.
Roode then jumped onto the ring apron to confront Orton, who had the Modern Day Maharajah in position for his RKO finisher, and pushed him back, allowing the former world champion to sink him with a Khallas for the win.
Lynch sets up tag match with Carmella victory
Carmella's war of words with Becky Lynch went from the realm of social media to a WWE ring at SmackDown and things went badly for Miss Money In The Bank.
Lynch had her game face in place and forced Carmella to tap out with her Dis-arm-her submission move.
The duo will now again go face to face, on Sunday night, although on that occasion they will have company, with Naomi tagging with Lynch and Natalya forming a partnership with Carmella.
