Big Cass has been released by WWE and has left the company with immediate effect.

The news was confirmed in a very brief official statement which read: "WWE has come to terms on the release of William Morrissey (Big Cass)."

The 30-year-old competed at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view on Sunday, losing to Daniel Bryan in what was his comeback after a long spell out with a knee injury.

Cass sustained the injury during a street fight match with former tag-team partner Enzo Amore on the August 21 episode of Raw.

Amore himself was fired by WWE in January after allegations of sexual assault were made against him. No police charges were ever made.

The pair enjoyed great popularity as a tag team, with Amore as the mouthpiece and Cass as the enforcer, and were regularly used in title matches and high-profile Raw storylines.

It had been speculated that Cass, because of his enormous size, would be receiving a push and that appeared to be the case when he was put in a programme with Bryan, but his time with WWE has now come to an end.
