Robert Haugh (Newcastle United fan) says...

King Kev is right we have got no chance of breaking the stranglehold of the so called top four even if he had 100million pound to spend we still could not attract the top players to St.James as for the average players the likes of Peter Crouch valued at 15 million no team in there right mind would pay that we paid the same for shearer theres no comparison so who are we going to buy, and more to the point what are you going to pay for these players will they will be second rate, cast offs nobody wants or players who cannot get into the first team of the likes of Man U,Chelsea,Arsenal and Liverpool and sell them on for over inflated prices ie Smith and Duff name but two so how can you expect to be up there with the best when you cannot attract the best Newcastle will always be a mid table side for years to come and cannon fodder for the top four as they have always been and since king kev took over we have played the four and lost 5-1 2-0 3-0 and 3-0 and have beaten the likes of Fulham,Reading, Sunderland and drew with the likes of Birmingham and Middlesboro and the times when we were challenging for the Champions League positions are long gone so next season it will be more of the same, expectations high but when turn of the year comes around mid table survival or in the relegation mire and fielding under a strength team in the F.A Cup this will continue for years to come unless one day that trend may change and who knows we might be back at san siro or the nou camp so ashley get into the real world and stop spitting the dummy out and back king kev he needs every help available you might the owner but you dont own the geordie nation and its them you should be listening too.

True Red says...

Newcastle's fans have been living in cloud cookoo land for years. What they want KK to say is that Newcastle will win the Premiership next year, and the Champions League the year after ... it makes them feel good, and they can spend the summer getting all excited about the coming season. Reality has nothing to do with football on Tyneside!!

Mark Savage (Manchester United fan) says...

I am not Newcastle fan but have to agree with KK, he is spot on with his asessment that Newcastle are a million miles away from a top 4 finish.....at best they can hope for next season is a UEFA Cup spot either through the league or more probably the League cup!! The club needs a major overhaul....A new defence & a new midfield + 2 new strikers to go alongside Owen & Martins! Dennis Wise has to go, what is his function @ the club?? If he is being lined up to replace KK then god help the Club!! Oh and Mr Ashley stop behaving like a little boy with a new toy, this is a Football Club with a huge tradition & great fans so get out of the stands with the supporters and get real.......Listen to your manager when he tells you what players he wants to add to the squad....he knows, you dont!! If you dont buck up now, you will lose KK & the momentum he has picked up! Keep Kev happy, stick with him & who knows with luck, hard work & most importantly PATIENCE the club can begin to compete with the big boys once again!!

Mem Suleyman says...

Look i like KK but his remarks are wrong.. I dont think we can break the top 3 but breaking into Liverpool within the next 2-3 seasons is a chance. Seriously what quality players have liverpool got apart from torress, mach and gerrad?? i think with a cauple of top class signings and i mean top class signings Toon supporters could be shocked..

Joyce Lunn (Newcastle United fan) says...

kk is right in what he says he speaks for the rest of the geordie nation.KK cannot be sacked for what he said the team has transformed since he came the lads were totally sick as chips the whole team were just turning up on saturday afternoonsand thats all they did the fight has come back and they look as if they want to win a few have to go they dont know what its like to wear a black n white shirt and what it means to the people of newcastle KK does i think mike ashley is fantanstic mixing with the fans in his black n white shirt we have never had thet before they cant let KK go away again if it does happen this is madness to har he was back again had tyneside buzzing before the fans were just like the players sick as chips the appointment of KK gave us a twinkle in our eye im sitting here at 4 in the morning worrying whats going to happen to our messiah

Bob Croft (Newcastle United fan) says...

Kevin Keegan shoots from the hip and tells the truth any reasonable person knows that there are only 4 teams in the Premier League with a good chance of winning the title. Also KK has probably forgotten more about football than Dennis Wise will ever know. My advice to Mike Ashley is back Kevins judgement to the hilt and don't rock YOUR boat. Only one thing will give the fans what they long for is Lots & Lots of cash for players (and I don't mean a measly 100Mil) and Kevin Keegan. A transformation has already started a St James's look how much more exciting the team is to watch now after such a short period of time under Keegan. Fans go to football to see goals and open play, something that is in revival since Keegans return. Back KK TO THE HILT!!!!!!!! and success will follow. Howay the Lads.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom Meadows (Middlesbrough fan) says...

I wonder what all you toon fans would've said if Allardyce had said this. I don't think u'd agree. U'd say he lacked ambition, and didn't have a passion for the club. I'm not saying KK's wrong, or that he doesn't have a passion cos he clearly does, but i just wonder if Allardyce would've got away with this comment.

Scott Stagg (Arsenal fan) says...

Kevin Keegans comments were disgusting. Arsenal and Liverpool dont have the amount of money a Man Utd or Chelsea for that matter of fact. Arsene Wenger brings in youngsters, one for the future for cheap. Liverpool spent 50 mill last summer yes, but when was the last time they did. And if the "big four" are too strong for the toon, shouldn't Keegan ask Ashley for the amount of money apparently the big four have? I think Kevin Keegan is a disgrace to english football now. These comments could damage the quality of players the premier league could have in the future. The comments this guy comes out with are totally outrageous, uncalled for and unbelievable.

Billy Moss (Liverpool fan) says...

Kevin Keegan is spot on! Newcastle are a million miles of the top four and for any Newcastle fan to think there not then they really would be a toon...A LOONY TOON!

Posted 23:04 8th May 2008

Bill Dodds (Newcastle United fan) says...

I'm a lifelong Newcastle fan and I'm very concerned by Keegan's comments. He seemed very emotional after the chelski game and that usualy means something is not quite right at the club. i hope they can sort it out tomorrow - all toons fans are 100% behind Keegan. I am astounded that so many fans from other clubs don't think we can get into europe - just look at the form in the last 7 games, with four or five quality additions and if we ensure that the mighty Owen is signed on, I am fully confident that we have enough to get into europe next year.....haway the lads!

Anth Ayre (Newcastle United fan) says...

As a Newcastle fan all we want is to know where we (as a club) stand and for someone to tell it how it is. Thank the lord we now appear to be getting somewhere. Keegan is very cute/clever. His statement after the Chelsea game and interview today is bang on so get off his back but he has also brought a response from Mr. Ashley. Now it is up to him to put his money where his mouth is (within reason). I agreed with keegan and with Mort. No we don't want to go down the leeds route. In the past we have (as newcastle fans) been labelled with the label fickle and inpatient especially in the case of Big Sam. Sam couldn't handle this job. Newcastle fans will give Keegan the time and Ashley knows it. The season ticket applications have not been signed sealed and delivered yet. If Ashley were to act aganst Keegan this would not be the time. If Ashley wants the seasonal 50,000 season ticket holders to renew again he'll back Keegan. and should issue a statement himself. I speak for most Newcastle fans who would just be grateful for intertoto qualification to europe next season if it could be achieved. 5th would be beyond our expectations. We know football and Keegan knows us. Leave him be, there aren't any better hands around to be in for now.

Liam Bolton says...

Being a season ticket holder at Newcastle i've heard this before from other managers but because for whatever reason the media seem to want Keegan to fail ever since he came back they've exploded this on to the backpages of all the papers. Kevin is right, if you're going to break into the top 4 you've got to spent BIG but also bring in the right players. Just look at Liverpool they spent 25m on Torres and are still along way from the top 2 or 3. We need a Centre Back or two. A Left Back (maybe, depending on how Enrique comes on) ... A Centre Mid or maybe 2. (This being based on the current tactics) ... Take into consideration the RIDICULOUS prices for players at the minute and you're looking at, at least £75m. We heard from when Kevin took over he was going to have £100m to spend in the summer and now it looks as if maybe Ashley is backpeddling. To be honest i think when they might they will set down a list of 3 or 4 players, top quality players to go all out to sign and that will be that, rather than them two slanging out for a couple of hours. Also Keegan couldn't possibly get the sack, no one would renew their Season Tickets next season!

Posted 20:24 8th May 2008

Steve Court (Aston Villa fan) says...

I think Keegan is just being his usual honest self and warning Mike Ashley that he hasn't got the sort of quality in his squad that he had in his first spell. I'm a Villa fan and I would love nothing more than us to challenge for the title but I know its not going to happen overnight, but we are progressing at a far quicker rate than I ever imagined. The most Ashley can expect is progression. Fair enough, he never appointed Sam Allardyce so he made a change, but he took his time and got his man, and all I say is give King Kev time and a chance to stabilise 'cos if Ashley steps on his toes - KK will not need a second invitation to leave once again.

Posted 20:19 8th May 2008

John Brindle (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

I appreciate KK may well be telling the truth, but it's not what a boardroom with aspirations want to hear, nor is it 'the dream' with which he's going to sell the club to prospective players. We (Spurs) had a manager who looked realisticly at the prospect of breaking the top 4 (Martin Jol)....within minutes of him saying that, the Tottenham board were jetting off to Spain for his replacement... Admittedly their choice was good and I honestly think we've a chance at breaking the monopoly as a result but as anyone who follows football would tell you Spurs have invested a LOT of time and money in their endevour yet still, nothing is guarenteed.

Posted 19:50 8th May 2008

Thomas Mills (Newcastle United fan) says...

Keegan is just speaking the truth. No premiership team will launch an attack on the top 4 next season nevermind Newcastle. We have to keep our best payers like Martins and Owen, the players who know where the goal is,and also bring in some new defenders and mabe some midfield, we could be doing with another player who has the physical presence of Mark Viduka because i dont think he's going to last for long. I have no idea why Mike Ashley is unhappy at Keegans coments as i think they are the most valid words Keegan has said since he has been back.

Posted 16:58 8th May 2008

Jeremy Sargeant says...

Keegans comments are fair enough. Those i've seen discussing them on sky sports seem to be saying it's not impossible if you've got the money. That is the real clincher! The top four, in qualifying for the Champions League get all the money that is in the game, so not only do the clubs have big money but they then earn the big money making it harder for any other club to catch up with them. No club should be in the position that they're wishing for another Abromovich to come along and finance them to victory. Unfortunately that is the state of the game, and maybe Blatters plans to cap the number of overseas players in a team is a step forward in balancing out the domestic game aswell as helping to enourage the production of talented youngsters for the national team.

Rory Varley (Middlesbrough fan) says...

The only way the toon is getting into europe is by ferry!!! Yes boro probably wont get into europe but the toon have no chance!!!

Posted 16:31 8th May 2008

Michael Slack (Newcastle United fan) says...

Kevin Keegan is correct with his aims for next season, but he still shouldnt tell the media this, this will not attract players, He definately should NOT be fired, he has done a great job and the right players could see him exeed his expectations, although they will be hard to get!

Posted 16:29 8th May 2008

Ben Mcclew (Newcastle United fan) says...

Whats all the fuss about!?... Keegan just refreshingly speaks the cold truth, which most toon fans already know. I don't understand all the "crisis" and "tension" headlines, and suddlenly a meeting with the chairman in all probability just to discuss plans and potential new signings is considered as crunch talks! makes me laugh how the London press jump on Newcastle and build things up at every available opportunity - wheres all the Portsmouth crisis headlines after Harry Rednapp agreed and backed up everything Keegan said!? If Mike Ashley wants to do a Chelsea we probably need over 200 million for recruiting players and Keegan needs to sell the dream to these players as we don't have champions league football to lure them. If he doesn't have that kind of money after wiping out out 100 million debt then the best we can do is compete and try and recruit the cream of european youngsters and the best proven players on offer currently in the premiership. Myself I am hoping for quality signings like Bentley, Crouch and Reyes and an aging Sol Campbell to surdy the defence and bring on our promising young centre backs.

Posted 16:09 8th May 2008

Philip Keogh (Manchester United fan) says...

Kevin is spot on, Newcastle was close to being in the relegation zone let alone thinking of a top 4 spot, Man united, chelsea, arsenal and liverpool dont just have good to brilliant players but have consistency and the mentality to go and win trophys, the best at the moment newcastle can achive is mid-table maybe uefa cup spot (5th) and winning the carling cup or now a days giving what portsmouth and cardiff are hoping to do win the FA cup. Kevin keegan always wore his heart on his sleeve and is a realistic manager it will be a while before newcastle will be competing in the top 4 but doesn't mean it can't happen sooner rather then later!!!!!
