Skysports.com examines where it all went wrong for England's bid to stage the 2018 World Cup.Back to story
Maybe, just maybe the reason that England lost the bid was because the others had even better ones? Is that too difficult for people in this country to understand? It doesnt mean the England bid was bad. Whats the problem? When the English stop believing that they have the god given right to win every world cup and host every world cup and instead realise that they have to actually earn it then I am sure that they will have great success.

I think that it is safe to say that it was the Panarama prgrame and the Times investigation is the reason that we only got 2 votes and one of those was from our own rep

Fifa is a disgrace, BBC is a Disgrace and so is the Times Newspaper, the problem with our country is its run by a bunch of idiots, The English FA are not English, the manager is not English, the team is rubbish and have no care what so ever for playing for there country. We will just be a open door mat for all other european countries to ponch off our goverment and take all the work. England is a shambles and im embarrased to be a part of it.... Bring back the 70's

If FIFA are to award World Cup hosts to emerging countries only, they should state that and save the established countries the cost and wasted time. The English bid is reported to have cost 15 million.

in terms of the bid nothing else could have been done and everything is set up to host the tournement, but fifa see it differently and i never thought for one minute we would get the world cup in 2018 it just wasnt to be .... in saying that we sort of contributed to our own downfall with the english media not exactly the most favourite press in the world, lord triesman making a fool of himself and good old panorama airing the programme on the bribe issue, we never stood a chance and also mr anti-england himself michel platini no doubt would have put his two penneth in to put members of the fifa commitee off voting for us as in a nutshell he cant stand england and never has done .... 2018 and 2022 result at the same time no doubt one or two favours may have been done there to secure votes for the winning bids as teams backed out .... good luck to russia and qatar i hope they get it right but i have doubts, englands got no devine right to host anything never mind the world cup but to get only 2 votes stunk like a dead rat and something was wrong i think fifas minds were already made up and it looks like the russians were always going to win .... but we also have to look at ourselves at times and i just cant see us getting another major tournement for a good few years yet ...... but mind you france did get euro 2016 so platini may have bought a few beers for his best mates at uefa for that one, dont you just love the guy .... last word i hope fifa fall flat on their faces one day it just seems that if you grovel you will get a tournement ... roll on 2026 and 2030 in mongolia and kazakstan

Let this be a watershed for English football and its culture. Forget any accusations of corruption or bias,Even though they may well be grounded !. Perhaps we have allowed the game to get away from its true roots,These are the men and women who support the clubs through thick and thin with a passion .A passion that cannot be matched anywhere in the world. However the game in this country hs fast gone beyond them into the laps of corporate hospitalty and a reliance on sponsorship. Our claim to be the best league in the world is based on imported foreign skill. We need to make a decision about weither we rely on foreign players with their sky high transfer fees/ huge salaries.Or develop our youth to create a game that is self sufficient in home grown talent that can match the Spanish Germans and Brazilllians. English football needs to belong to the English.Only then will we regain our respect in world football and be regarded as a worthy host for Iinternational tournaments.

Exactly the same reason we never win the Eurovision Song Contest...................................politics sway decisions! (Well that and a good 'financial sweetner' !

Oh Let me guess. A renowned corrupt state littered with Billionaires comes out emphatically on top out of a relatively small vote. They must now build 13 new stadiums and facilities to go with all those stadiums. With Economies crashing all over wouldn't it have been wise to give the bid to a country who didn't need to spend Billions? I fully accept that the Beeb, The Times and the St. Andrews faithful have a hand in this but FIFA must be investigated to the fullest now. We can't hold a World Cup until 2030 now so lets properly get our noses into them and see what's really going on. Lets see a Russian goal over the line be disallowed. Mr Blatter would freak..............

Dont bother doing too much soul searching. Its about back handers and England has a media that might write about them.
Posted 19:08 2nd December 2010
Face facts. England lost the bid for 2 reasons, 1 the BBC and 2 The Sunday Times. They can blame FIFA and its possible shady dealings, the simple truth is without those investigations England may well have won the bid.

Brazil were not given the next World Cup tournament because it would make a difference to them, or to create a 'legacy'. It was because they were the only country who ran for it!!
Posted 18:45 2nd December 2010
When will this country learn we will not get a World Cup here until Sepp Blatter goes!!!! The man is a fool............

'RESPECT' is the answer. What happened in Birmingham's 2-1 Carling Cup quarter-final win over Aston Villa possibly was on their minds. There is only one "WINNER" and one "LOSER"! Acceptance is the answer not "Frustration"!

Time to move on.Fifa do not wish us to be part of their secret club. We have the best league in the world
Posted 17:44 2nd December 2010
So Fifa want to take the game to the world, well what about the places where the game has been supported for many years? What about us, what about giving the fans something back? 3 consecutive world cups that are complete gambles, eventually your luck will run out. The next one should have been in an accessable part of Europe, either Spain/Portugal, Netherlands/Belgium or England. Now for the next 12 years the majority of major teams supporters have to jump through hoops to get to the world cup. An utter disgrace
Posted 17:38 2nd December 2010
I dont think we could of done much more to win this bid for the world cup.In terms of stadium and structure we are second to no one.I think england within fifa are disliked and certain members would never vote for us no matter what the bid was.there is definately a case to be answered in terms of corruption at fifa but i dont hold my breath in it being sorted out and governed honestly anytime soon.
