30 - 35 million for carroll fair enough a good player but hes had HALF a season in top flight football no european experiance and 1 or 2 caps for england. david villa - 34million last summer - world cup winner plenty of caps n goals for spain champions leauge experance years of top flight football with valencia. why do english players cost the same or more than world cup winners? and torres 50 million why his form been poor all of 2010 and carrired it on whats going on in english football its gone mad

I thought Rafa's transfers dealings were a joke but for Liverpool to fork out £35m for carroll is a complete laugh. That's £1m that Spain and Barca star David Villa who is proven world class striker. Carroll hasn't even yet completed a full season in the premier league, he's more likely to complete a full season behind bars. If Graeme Souness had've done a deal like this I could understand it but c'mon King Kenny, get your brain into gear!!!

how can a player plead in local papers he wants to stay then a couple of hrs later hand in a transfer request, shows corruption of money in the game no loyalty to fans or club get rid of agents would be a start

What a waste of £35Million pounds! How can that amount of money be justified on a player who is still, in my view, unproven in top flight football as well as injured! A bid in the region of £50M would have lured Aguero who is 10 times the player Carroll will ever be.... I bet there is a party on Tyneside tonight as they probably realise they can build a stronger squad with that money and buy back Carroll for £5M in about a season when he does nothing at Liverpool! WASTE OF MONEY!

this lad has got some promise. but 35 mill just seems too much money for a new player to the premier league........its nice to see some british talent coming to the club though.

so 35 million for a player that has only played in the PL for 6 months, now who is saying that darren bent was a waste of money?

Fantastic news, well done Kenny a spine off English grit will see us alright, Good luck Torres but if you don't want to play for Liverpool then the deal is done.

So Andy Carroll is worth more than David Villa? Anyone care to explain that one to me? £35m? I smell a panic buy!

Tommy Hill (Liverpool fan) says...

This is great intent from the owners of LFC. But will have to see if 35+ million is worth the money, Id say its very overpriced for such a player, because thats what youd pay for an established striker, as Rio Ferdinand said David Villa who is ranked massively in the world, was less than 35 million. You never know though, he could turn out to be the next English Wayne Rooney. But with the price tag, they wont get it back from a sale if it doesnt work. Look at torres brought for less than 25 million, being sold for around 50 million.

Fantastic !! Pricey but Suarez and Carrol for Torres now hope we can get Charlie Adam. Things are moving forward with quality and not the speculative cheapo's we have put up with for the last 6 years.

this is an absolutely ridiculous amount of money for a 22 year old with no premier league experience except this half of the season with newcastle. they sign luiz suarez for 22.8 million or so but hes a uruguay international and helped them acheive and amazing world cup campaign last year. not a chance in hell that andy carrol is worth more than a world cup quarter finalist.

Colin Thomas (Newcastle United fan) says...

I will be extreamly gutted if Carroll leaves the club, he is the best thing that has come out of newcastle in years. How can Newcastle expect to get any better if they cant hold on too their best players and future prospects!!!!

Mike Grimshaw (Newcastle United fan) says...

Gutted to see him go but it is a lot of money for a player who has yet to prove he is truly a top player. We need a striker and fast, there's no one left above championship-level forwards in our team. We need a Darren Bent by tonight or it'll be a tough season...

Si The red (Manchester United fan) says...

this deal is desperation for liverpool £35mill for a player who wasnt even top scorer in the championship last season, newcastle must be rubbing their hands at this deal, liverpool have paid probably 10 to 15 million over the top .. carroll's a great prospect but not worth £35mill, even the little team from manchester got dzeko for £27 mill..... the market has gone crazy and prices are well well over inflated.........
