Billy Boy - When did Martin O'Neill become English. He's Northern Irish.

Well i think it is all mad, if you lood at how the board treated Zola, one minute they wetre saying his job was safe, then the other one would say he's going, then they both say he's the man for the job, then at the end of the season they sacked him, now i see the same thing happenign here, now since 2nd Oct 2010 we have played 20 lost 6, not bad, more recently, played 7 lost 1, now i think that is pretty good, we are 9 points of 8th? thats how close it is, i think if we were 9 points adrift of sfety then yes change manager buyt not when its so tight....

O Neil is a top manager and I think this is a step in the right direction.

I feel that Avram Grant is slowly getting things right. The club owners need to look longer term and no just this season. BTW Billy Boy Martin O'Neill is from Northern Ireland so isnt English

Massive mistake. O'Neill is not a 'top, top manager' - he has a big profile, but hasn't won jack, and can only manage with an open cheque book. He also has a big mouth, no class, and plays LONG BALL FOOTBALL. Grant deserves the chance to see this through. He's a good manager who, to his own disadvantage, is quiet and humble. 'Average' managers don't take clubs to Champions League finals - which, I might add, was better than Mourinho, Hiddink, Scolari, Ancelotti and Ranieri managed to do with the SAME PLAYERS. Some West Ham fans need to wake up and stop living in a fantasyland. You don't know what you've got til it's gone.

6 months ago the same people sacking Avram were the ones saying he was the best man for the job! Joke! League Cup Semi Finals, FA Cup 4th Round, 2pts from 14th in League and only 1 defeat in 7 matches - definitely time to sack the manager! Avram has won 10 and lost 10 since taking charge - not bad for West Ham in my opinion. When will clubs stop blaming the managers and start looking at the players???

To all you Villa fans who are slating Martin O'Neill as a manager, the players he brought in, the style of football he played for the last two seasons befor this one you were vying for a top 4 spot and now with the majority of the same players you are relegation candidates. Great manager!!

James Limmer (West Ham United fan) says...

how can you say Martin O'Neil hasn't won anything? are you stupid or just plainly ignorant? He won the league cup twice with Leicester in 1997 and 200! then in his first season at Celtic they did the domestic treble! In his five seasons at Celtic Park, O'Neill won three League titles, three Scottish Cups, and a League Cup. so it appears that he has actually won something....

West Ham are quality at home and i think they can stay up. The last time i looked Avram Grant got into the the final of every competition with chelsea with JOES MOURINHOS TEAM!! he got portsmouth relegated as well! martin oneil turned Aston Villa into a European team with remoundous of english talent. I am fully backing getting O'Neill, so he can save this fantastic club from crumbling.

lets get rid of the man who has the compassion of a cold cup of tea. and get o,niel in who we all no has a real passion for football, and give westham the fire in there belly for the dog fight ahead

Harry Bauskin (Liverpool fan) says...

Firing Avram Grant explains why West Ham are bottom of the league. Bad management decisions seem to be the name of the game at this club. One defeat out of last 7 games is pretty good considering this squad. I say fire management and not the manager.

Hammers management gave hell to their choice, not event a moment of a working atmosphere. Avram survived the pressure and the press, the mangers couldn't. Westham will be relegated. It was unbelievable how good those limited players were playing from time to time. They were on the road to get out from the bad start - I cannot see it happening now, no matter what magician will take over.

I think West Ham football club should give avram grant one more chance, If he dosen't reach the Carling cup final or win the carling cup the west ham should sack him but he is a good manager with a lot of experience! :)

Martin O'Neill would be a breath of fresh air to the WHU fans, I think Avram tried to build a balanced team as best he could with a limited squad but tactically he didnt have a clue! nor did he fire up the players, we were relegation certainties with him in charge albeit we might have one the CC. Matin O'Niell is our only chance to remain in the EPL.

Richard Hubbard (Stoke City fan) says...

Good manger BUT hope West Ham have really deep pockets because you will need them... clearly with the 90k per week wages on Bridge and now o'neill no financial lessons have been learned!

Steve Axford says...

why replace grant with someone who walked out on villa, grant has started to turn things around and deserves a chance, changing managers now would only take us backwards, on the form list over the last six games west ham have the best stats in the prem league with : W3 D2 L1, so mr gold and mr sullivan, if you want the support of the supporters then end this madness now, KEEP AVRAM GRANT, keep loyal like we have all these years, get some stability and keep the manager, or lose the faith of the supporters, you have been warned, its your chice

BEST NEWS EVER. As a West Ham fan I¿ve been saying we should have got in O'Neill when he left Villa. I think he is going to be the best West Ham manager we have ever had. Finally Gold and O¿Sullivan are going to make a great signing. (Rather than the normal rubbish they keep seeming to buy)

Gary Dowling (West Ham United fan) says...

Martin O'Neill at West Ham United? Never thought the club were ever capable of puliing off something like that, will only believe it if and when he arrives. I dont get some of the comments on here about him being no good and i have to say i'm surprised. Why is he linked with every job when they become available? because he is a good manager. As long as we can keep him for the long term which looks unlikely then even if we dont survive this year he will make West Ham a team that can again attract better quality players and put a smile on all our current miserable faces. Come on you Irons.
