I think we have a realistic chance, but then again, we did in 2006 and in France 98. A great deal of luck will come into play. Referee's decisions, sendings off, penalties. I think we'll take some beating in a one-off game. Only Brazil, Italy or Spain could beat us over 90mins, but the dreaded penalty shoot out could come back to haunt us as it has so many times before.

David Matthews (Sheffield Wednesday fan) says...

I think we (England) have our best chance since 1970 when we had an awesome team and got unluckily knocked out due to a number of injuries and Gerd Muller. The big difference this time is the manager and the climate. We can play our Premiership power game. I think Englands squad is full of top players and I hope Joe Cole gets back in playing in the hole - he gives us some trickery. There is no need to fear anyone so we shouldnt be worried about the Group. Think of it the other way; not too many teams will want to be drawn against England other than Scotland - oh no they didnt make it.

What difference does it make if you "get behind" the England team or not? The players wont know, or give a damn if you do or don't when sat at home in blighty.Everyones entitled to their opinion and mine is, once again, a quarter final failure. So stop dreaming England is the best team in the world, you are confusing "Best" with "Wealthiest" Wake up and smell the coffee, Jesus.

Maybe we will, maybe we wont, Win the World Cup! but one thing should happen and that is that we should all get behind our team and cheer them on, cos when they are good, they are really good, lets just hope they are not too bad, yes we can win but it will be tough, past winners have not won beating just easy teams, we are mentally stronger and have a good mix of old and new players, I have every faith in Capello and our Players, it will be a great competition, and I really think we will be at the semi or final stages of the World Cup, now we have something to win, something to fight for, we know we always do things the hard way, it might just make the difference this time, when our backs are to the wall, we will come out fighting, Come on the Lions, bring that World Cup home and give our country a lift we really need at this time. gerrard, cole, defoe, beckham & rooney will all be crucial to our success !!!!

I think it's about time this country started showing a little patriotism. Do you honestly think other countries, even the smaller ones, will be already saying their country are going to fail already!? Ignore the papers and ignore the possibiity of failure and just get behind your country!

Simon Quill (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

Why do certain English people always have negative attitudes about our football team. On the day we have the beating of anyone, and I will be fully behind the boys and believe we can win it. Look at so many of our previous tournament knockouts. They have been down to the luck of the penalty shootout. I think an older Lampard, Gerrard and co will have the confidence to win if we come to penalties.

Dale Parker (Liverpool fan) says...

With all due respects to the england squad, i don't think they'll even get to the QF this time round, sure they did well in qualifying but i believe they'll get a lousy group stage and will struggle, hopefully they;ll get france, ivory and north korea and will get destroyed, i;m an england fan but they're not as near as good enough as the other teams,no matter who thinks otherwise. And this draw will hopefully prove it.

Jim Cartel (Newcastle United fan) says...

I think qualification in to the knock out stages is nailed on, but there is no way England will get past the last 8, with just Rooney as our only world class striker!!....would love to be proved wrong though..

Mike Kemble (Manchester United fan) says...

The England knockers are coming out, particularly those north of the border who have nothing to shout about, again. I do not think England will win it, QF probably the furthest we go but the seedings is nothing at all to do with the team, thats FIFA. So stop knocking the seeding process and intimating that England 'engineered' it - we did - by winning our games. This is arguably the worst squad we have had in yeras, but I will shout for them come the summer. Once we are out, my interest in any further proceedings will also cease.

Sat Cahahl (Manchester United fan) says...

who cares what group England get... because whoever they draw they'll qualify for the next round anyway! do you people really believe if we draw mexico, france and ivory coast that they are going to beat england! wake up from your cuckoo land!

Chris Priest (Hartlepool United fan) says...

I think the best draw would be for England to get Mexico, Ivory Coast and France. Then that way all the world can see how bad English football really is when we don't even get out of the group.

Andrew Jeffery (West Ham United fan) says...

Roll on June!!!! Only 3/4 teams on paper we have to fear but confidence will be high. Going to book of the Monday after the final. Come on England, our time is now.

Imran Mamdani (Everton fan) says...

Mexico, Ivory Coast and France? Australia, Uruguay and Portugal is a much tougher group. Whoever we get I expect us to get through the group stages no fuss and have a real go at bring the World Cup home!

Michael Jordan (Chelsea fan) says...

Lets not find any more excuses, trying to avoid teams or having a so called easy group. if England want to win the world cup they have to beat the best team in the world. so typical of the english opting for an easy way out. you dont see Brazil or Argentina hoping they draw weak teams. thats why is called the World cup, coz is the best of the best.

George Staples (Arsenal fan) says...

Why all the fuss - why the fear - even Mr. Capello is alleged to have expressed unease - why? Nothing worth having is won by fear. We can't win the world cup anyway, so it is fortuitous that we will stay in the competition a while longer. Watch out for a 'small team' having a laugh over England at some stage. It will happen. Mark White (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

We have to beat the best to be the best, being top seeds in a group won't count for anything if we stumble at the first hurdle. I think Capello will suprise us with some of his squad inclusions! (If we get France Terry Henry has to wear large gloves with disco lights on them, so that the ref can spot his deliberate handballs)

Den Mcfarlane (Arbroath fan) says...

Means absolutely nothing to be in with the top seeds as the standards of teams are so high. Again, the English media will be working overtime to up the pressures on the team to repeat the glories of ¿66 (god how many times will we hear that)? Good luck to them but I feel there are much better sides in it that will out class England.

Stefan Klukowski (Liverpool fan) says...

Not one team from pot 2 worries me. Ivory Coast are the danger that would come from Pot 3 but there are more teams in that final pot that would be tricky-denmark came through one of the hardest qualifying groups and i wouldnt fancy the serbians at all. I think we will get quite far but end up getting knocked out by teams that dont deserve to be there in the end though namely Portugal and France!
