Hamza Hafeez (Chelsea fan) says...

I'm not 100% sure on Deco. It's always a gamble when you sign a new player, no matter what age. He has the potential to be great and unlike most posters here, I think he is actually quite physical and not affraid of a tackle. He can be quite a dirty player too when he wants to be. With regards to Lampard, well, he looks like he's on his way out. Frank has been amazing for us but his form has slowly dipped over the last few seasons and while he still gets goals at crucial times, he also doesn't add any cutting edge when it comes to passing. We've really badly lacked creativity in the last two seasons and Lampard is part of that problem. Considering the players we have, I think Deco is a good addition. If it signals the end of Lampard at chelsea, so be it. We'll say thanks to Frank for all he's done for us.

I think Deco is in place of Makelele and not Lampard. Remember, still Lampard and other midfielders look upto Maka for his midfield skills. Deco will bring his experience in CL and spanish football like Maka. Maka is probably at his last year of playing career. I think it is a very smart move. But I am worried whether this will unsettle Mikel as he may feel sidelined in important games. I dont think we should lose Mikel at any cost from a long term perspective.

Absolutely disappointing and senseless signing!!! I understand that Chelsea buy experienced players as their main goal is to win Champions League but Deco will be 31 in August and he will play 2 seasons for Chelsea at most. He is not so good now as he used to be before and last season he only made 24 starts for Barcelona, made 6 assists and scored 1 goal. Chelsea should begin thinking of buying some talented young players which can bring flair and creativity into team's play or at least should do utmost to keep their existing players. Shame on Chelsea!!!

Deco could be a great buy. The reason I say this is because of all the negative comments from Liverpool & ManU so called fans. They seem to be negative every time Chelsea buy some one, but when we win a trophy we have bought it. Can't have it their own way all the time. The big three will always contest the title and go for big named players. Liverpool will always stuggle to finish 4th.

Why waste such a huge sum of money on a player whose services were no longer required by Barcelona. I thought he would be here on a free transfer just like Ballack. Deco is no longer the strong, fit and fast play maker he used to be. We should be asking ourselves why Inter did not go for him after securing the services of Jose? I think it was a calculated plan by Jose (the special one) to announce to the whole world that he wants to re-enact his partnership with Deco at Inter so that Chelsea will stall a bit with Lampard's contract thereby giving Inter some valuable time to convince Lampard that he has a greater future with the Italian giants than at Chelsea. We can now see why Jose regards himself to be the 'Special One'. Chelsea should ALWAYS remember that Lampard has never FAILED to deliver for the club when called upon. Good examples are when he was carrying injuries and even with the sad death of his mum. Lampard is very devoted to his job. He has bailed Chelsea out of uncountable tight situations so many times. Lampard's departure will be a big loss to Chelsea FC and will be a big gain to the other premiership clubs and Inter FC. We will miss your free kicks and dominance in the mid-field with Michael Essien, Michael Ballack, Mikel Obi and UNCLE Claude Makelele. My family and I wish Frank Lampard all the best in all his future endeavours. We pray that God will grant Farnk Lampard favour and direct him to make the right decision and protect him and grant him long life in Jesus name, Amen. Thanks for your contribution to the success of Chelsea FC. Good luck and God Bless you, Frank Lampard.

Deco on a technique level is a better player than Lampard but on a team level, Lampard is better for Chelsea. But new manger wants all his own players so it's understandable,Jose brought in a number of his Porto boys when he came, so have faith in the manager. As for Barcelona Arshavin had a fantastic season with Zenit and it's unfair the way people are judging him on that one Spain performance-after all how many players would have shone against the best team in Europe? I don't think Barca need him, Iniesta can very easily take his place or Euro08 best player Xavi. Barca need to focus on 2things-replacements for Gaucho and Eto'o. My thoughts-Villa and Silva!

Deco is a proven worldclass talent, one of the best creative midfielders in europe over the last five years. The fact he is 30 is not important, his age and experience will give him the discipline he needs to adapt to the premiership. Chelsea have always been lacking that creativity in midfield that is needed, yes Lampard is a great goal scorer but we need other oulets to get us that crucial goal. I do hope Lampard stays, he deserves the contract that he wants but if he decides to go I wish him the best. I know Chelsea will sign more world class players, if football history has proven over the years everyone is replaceble in the long run.

I think it's a great signing for Chelsea they couldn't have got a better available replacement for Lampard. Deco is just at the end of his peak and is on very good form at the moment, which he showed in Euro 2008. I don't know why Barcelona let him go? I do think Deco is a better player than Lampard at the moment. Chelsea will get at least two or three good seasons out of him if he can settle into the Premiership.

What a waste time and money. This will signal the departure of lambard, carvalho, drogba to inter and "the special one" will love it. With these guys plus mancini from roma and Quaresma surely inter will be the team to beat. Dont play with mourinho, he knows how to build a formidable team poised to win

Joe Rose (Chelsea fan) says...

Deco is yet another player at the back end of his career. He's got some skills. Too bad diving is one of them. Lampard has to stay now!!!! Oh, yeah, what better way to keep Lamps. Buy another midfielder!!! Wow, what a load of crap. I'd rather we spend good money on a striker who can score!

Simon Davies (Arsenal fan) says...

Now Lampards move to Italy is iminnent. His exit will significantlly weaken chelsea. Lampard will excell in serie A under mourinho again. While Deco will struggle with the pace and scoring goals. Chelsea are making a big mistake.

As a Barcelona fan Im glad to see Deco gone. He hasnt been at his best for a good while now. Andres Iniesta is better than him anyway. Best of luck in London Deco. Hope Eto'o stays at Barca or if he does leave I think Kun Aguero at Athletico would be an amazing signing

Neil Roberts (Liverpool fan) says...

I am impressed that Chelski captured him. He is a great player and is the type of creative midfielder that people would have loved, 5 years ago...but as the Germans have shown, he doesnt do well under physical pressure, which he surely will once the season starts. I am willing to bet that one shoulder bump by Terry in practice will have the rest of the team worried. Hes not used to that style of play. I predict a repeat of Sheva. A great player who could have stayed at the top of their game and would have retired in glory had they stayed in their own, or similar, leagues. Its a shame. If you're gonna spend the money, what about Van der Vaart? You'd get more milage out of him. However, as a Liverpool fan, I must admit I am jealous. At least Chelski are linked with (and buying) big named and big game players. We've been linked to Barry.....woohoo. That is the type of action we need to take.....Raid Germany for Gomez and Bastian Schweinsteiger. But Rafa doesnt know who they are cause they arent Spanish.

I think that Deco will be a good signing for Chelsea, but with that has the deal just paved Lampards way out of Stamford Bridge and to the San Siro? May be a risk with him being 30, but what a bargain at 7 million!

Ben Stanford (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

When are Chelsea going to start investing in youth instead of buying the big names? It's just like Football Manager where they wait for players to have a good few seasons and then they pay ridiculous amounts for them. Such a false shallow team. Deco will be past it soon enough whereas Lampard could play for many more seasons.

Mark Wood says...

COULD be a very good signing for Chelsea. He isnt the player he was a few years ago but he will still be an asset to any club. He IS though, twice the player Lampard is and will ever be. One thing that was quoted by deco made me chuckle, "I am sure I have come at the right time to do great things and be able to help Chelsea go back to the way it was," thats a real worry for Chelsea fans, who im sure after having a taste of success dont want to go back to the mid table team challenging for the UEFA cup again. Tottenham will be interested in this. :-p

Scott Gladden (Chelsea fan) says...

Not sure what to make of this signing, I certainly feel that this could signal the end for either Frank Lampard or Michael Ballack who I thought started to build a good understanding of one another towards the end of the season. At 30 I think we have got him 2 or 3 years too late, we should be buying young players that are hungry for silverware and giving other players the chance to break into the first team. Chelsea should be making it their top priority in signing a talented wide man than signing more central midfielders.

Deco is not as good as he was. Lamps is still in his prime. I can't believe he'd leave Chelsea the fans love him. We need younger players like Robinho and Ashavin.

Benjamin Hill (Chelsea fan) says...

I think Deco is a great signing for Chelsea football club. I think there will be big changes in the team over the summer and I think the system and the way Chelsea play will also change. You have a manager who likes to play attacking football and it looks like he going to be bringing in many more players who share his philosophy on football. I don't see how people can say Chelsea are only buying has bins and old players. There is enough mixture of talent and experience now. I think this is just the beginning of something special...

Brilliant deal!!! But alot of people are slating the age of deco that is not a problem, look when chelsea signed makelele at the same age of 30 and look how good he has been till the age of 35 now , so i think deco will do the same at least a chance of another good 3 seasons for the guy!!
