What a catch for Derby. If he does what he's done at Burton they will play premiership football sooner than later. He has got out from the shadow's of his dad, shame Forrest didn't go for him, never mind someday.

Great move for derby in the long term, lets hope he can pick up where he left off at burton, there is nothing i would like to see more than a new clough era at derby. I know its a huge step to take but nigel seems a great manager and a great guy, and us derby fans are behind him. His father would be proud to see his son in the derby dugout! The new clough era has begun!

I hope that Nigel can show everyone just how much knowledge his father passed down to him and in doing so help this club get back to good times. So come on you Ram fans and get behind him and show how we love the club........

Nigel deserves his chance at a higher level. But the manner in which this whole matter has been handled is admirable. With Adam Pearson discussing the situation with Ben Robinson and the latter accepting that Nigel deserves the opportunity and wishing him well, is an example of how club Chairmen and managers should behave - with mutual respect, dignity and understanding. Roy McFarland could also prove a good move for Albion - I wish them all the best of luck in the future.

To get Burton to the top of the Conference is nothing short of amazing. I just hope Derby actually give Clough time to sort out a Derby team that needs rebuilding from scratch in my opinion. Too many teams are sacking managers without even giving them a chance. I just hope thats not the case with Nigel.

Sorry.....the worst thing the Cloughmiester could ever do! Ten glourious years at the Brewers and tto spoil it for a guaranteed "death sentence?" Why not have just taken Albiion to an amazing first season in the League and be proud of it? For me, an amazing managerial career cut short!

Who is kidding who? This appointment is about Brian Clough not Nigel, he has done nothing yet the conference is one thing the Championship is reality!RIP DCFC!

Neil Disson (Cardiff City fan) says...

Congratulations to Nigel Clough who quite rightly deserves the chance at a higher level. Burton Albion can be justifiably proud of what he has done for the club over the last 10 years and every genuine fan would not begrudge the man a chance at this job. The Derby board must now give hin the opportunity to develop the team his way with no interference from the powers above him. Tough first test at Cardiff on Saturday but dont expect miracles too quickly. Saturday will be a trial and error day. His time will come for sure. Hope Burton get the right man to replace him.

Nigel Clough doesnt seem to age! He looks the same as I remember him years ago! Reminds me of a little puppet?

What an excellent appointment - it must give the other teams in the conference some hope now.

Leo Donkersley says...

Fantastic appointment - now give him some time! What he has done with Burton proves he is, well, a chip off the old block. And I know he played for Forest, but if ever a surname should be allowed to transcend the bitter rivalry of Derby and Forest, it is the surname Clough.

Bradley Whitfield (Burton Albion fan) says...

It's about time he was given a chance at a higher level. I am devastated to be losing him because what he has done with Burton has been nothing short of amazing. Hopefully Derby give him the opportunity to prove how good a manager he is and I wish him all the best. Hopefully we can get a manager who will carry on the legacy see out this season and see little Burton amongst the league big boys.

Tom Wright (Derby County fan) says...

I think that this is a very postive managerial appointment by Derby, If he can be as good as his father was I don't see why he cant be a successful manager. I hope he can produce a bit of magic and hopefully put Derby in a respectable position at the end of the season. Mangers like clough need time to get things right and I am urging every Derby fan to get behind him and show him our full backing !!!
