I have just read a statement made by the FA saying that they can not give Cole a ban or a fine, due to the player being booked for the tackle. This is ridiculous as players can have red cards recinded, why can't they have them imposed afterwards. It was a horrific tackle and if they are looking to drive them out of the game, then the FA have to act incase the referee makes the wrong decision. Also, as i am a Sunderland fan, i was at the Stadium Of Light to see the Chelsea game last Saturday. On numerous occasions, Terry, Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, Makelele and co. surround the referee. This obviously intimidates the official and can lead to a poor decision, as we saw last night. Players should recieve an automatic yellow card for swearing or talking out of turn to officials (as seen as rugby). These Chelsea players are shocking role models for kids looking to get involved in the game.

It"s tough enough being a ref in todays game, but a string of poor decisions cost Spurs the match.
Drogba offside before Chelsea"s second goal, and Ashley Cole
should have been in the dressing room for the second half.
A red card followed by a minimum 3 match ban i would regard as adequate.
Everybody wants to see a match of last night"s quality, but
not the likes of Cole, whose totally needless touchline challenge
left no doubt as to his intention.
A marked change in attitude on all sides is urgently required to address this aspect of the game, without it being any less physical.

I'm interested to hear what Mr Blatter thinks of the challenge. Whilst Taylor's challenge was late, clumsy and slightly high, it was a fairly typical tackle in many respects, and the injury was more out of bad luck then the actual challenge. However in this, Ashley Cole lunged in, his whole body is almost off the ground and if Hutton's foot had been planted then he would have had a snapped leg as well. It was reckless and more deserving of a red card than Taylor. But no injury was caused, so no-one will do anything about it.

Well, the tackle and performance by both cole and the referee just goes to sum up all that is wrong with the premiership. Players from Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal get away with awful challenges and chasing after the ref whilst other teams lower down the table get awful decisions given against them. Mike Riley was also "rested" last week because his performance the week before was so bad, then he gets awarded a game like this where passions are always going to run high. Hes proved before he cant handle big games and should have a spell in the Championship.

The only reason Cole did NOT break Hutton's leg last night was the fact that Hutton's studs weren't in the turf. Taylor's tackle on Eduardo was much less aggressive than Ashley Cole's one and i would say had Cole broken Hutton's leg then we wouldn't see Hutton play football again.
The worse fact of it was that 3 or 4 chelsea players (Drogba and Terry as usual) confronted the referee in an attempt to overrule his decision! Just let the man do his job.
Is a shame the FA now cannot review this card - i believe it should have been red! Ashley Cole can count himself extremely lucky not to have a ban.

Surely that challenge has to be a red card. This season there have been challenges by players that are no where near as bad as that and have been seen as red cards. If the challenge did warrant onli a yellow card, then surely he should have got a yello for dissent aswelll. Keane moaned once that game and got booked. Absolute joke, the challenge was much worse than taylors on eduardo and hutton was lucky not be in the same state as eduardo. Chelsea players surrounding the ref again, fa really need to sort this out!

There is no need for a debate it was a red card and Riley in his usual display of inept officiating did not give a red . I have stopped attending live games and a major reason is poor officials .

It was a straight red. It was then made worse by Chelsea players forcing the ref to retreat half way back the field and Cole's disrespect towards the ref. Riley was too weak and even after giving him a yellow another should have followed for his stupid carry on. he carded keane for less. But like lampard earlier the FA are scared to come down on home based players.

Obviously the FA will be looking at this again and will act retrospectively......wont they????? Or is this a case of the usual teams getting away with it, just imagine if that tackle was on Ronaldo, i am sure Fergy would have the FA singing to his tune and Cole would receive a ban, if that is a yellow card i cant imagine what will warrant a red this weekend. Until the FA gets a grip, the country as a whole will suffer, the top 4 teams will always be accussed of favourtism, i thought this harrassing the ref was meant to have stopped? Or does that only apply to the teams outside of the top 4, allowing Terry/Rooney and Co to mouth of to referee's every single decision!?!!? Personally i am sick of it and i am glad my team is not one of those who constantly bemoan all refs and linesmen!

The referees have the power to stop this sort of thing happening but haven't got the guts to do it. Any player making this sort of tackle should see red regardless of who they are or who they think they are. If the refs started showing cards for crowding round and intimidating it would stop, the refs need to grow a pair and Ashley Cole should be exposed for the arrogant, impetulant idiot that he is. Funny how Avram Grant didn't see it too? He must have been taking lessons from Wenger.

Dreadful challenge! How the referee deemed it to be only a yellow card is beyond me. Disgusting behaviour from the Chelsea players yet again. The FA need to come down hard on Chelsea. This is a chance for the FA to make an example of players who think they can do what they like and say what they like to the officials. His attitude to the referee alone deserved a red card never mind the tackle and for the so called England captain he wasn't much better in his attitude towards the referee. Top four clubs seem to get special treatment in these situations when other clubs do not.

Aweful tackle made worse by his reaction and crowding of the ref. I have always stuck up for John Terry in the past regarding his leadership but yet again he has gone too far. The funny part was that my Brazilian step-son said thats a very bad tackle even if it was in Brazil. Cole is not a good player and plays more on the image of Chelsea, so you can't send me off and I have to be picked for England. I hate to say this, but Arsenal shut Chelsea up and beat them well. Bridge is a better player and role model.

In the current climate tackles without contact receive a yellow card, intent is sufficient so when a tackle such as Coles makes contact red should be the only option. Spurs fans will remember Robbie being sent off earlier this season for a far lessor tackle. As for his attitude the FA should examine Chelsea as a whole. After all this is not the first time they crowded the ref in this way. They should all look at the replay and be ashamed of themselves. What impression does it give to the viewers.

I would have sent him off. If anyone seen Koumas's challenge at the weekend you could tell he did'nt mean to hurt anyone but his tackle was dangerous and he was sent off. If Cole actually meant to hurt anyone then hes a disgrace not only to himself but to his club and country. I'd rather lose then have a team full of players like that.
Maybe his club should or have spoken to him too concerning his attitude to refs. With an attitude like his its no wonder his troubles on and off the pitch. Maybe hes not quite the professional we all thought he was at Arsenal.

Nothing can be done, however, as the ref has already dealt with it and so cannot get it turned to a red card.
