Steve O reilly says...

I think it is a disgrace, he should never be invited back to any tournament after this. We all have had to play golf in horrible conditions and don't get paid loads of money and we still have the decency to complete our round. His actions mean his playing partners are waiting around longer to hit and this could hamper their own rounds. I have lost all respect for the man and I hope the tours take the correct action and ban him for life, it might be Mark Browns only chance to play in The Open.

If you walk off the course in our local club during comopetition without an injury you get banned from playing competitions .... what kind of example is he setting for the younger players ..... if things are not going your way GIVE UP ???????? it shouldnt be allowed to happen !

Colin Yeaman says...

Professional sportsman or not, if Sandy Lyle was not in the right frame of mind after 9 holes it is his right to walk off the course. It could have become a real embarassment, not only for him but for the watching public too. I am a nine handicap golfer and I have walked off in a competition after 5 holes because it was embarassing for the other golfers I was partnering. So lets get off his back.

Ross Currie says...

Yeah what a disgrace. If he wasn't injured then he should be banned from playing an open again quite simply. Mind you I've done the same myself on PGA tour on the playstation a number of times!

James Jones says...

What a disgrace for a former champion. He should at least have carried on and completed his round. I do feel for the lad that should have taken his place.
