Andy Mclaren (Liverpool fan) says...

What a nightmare. Man City fans must be delighted, Man United fans must be delighted as a Liverpool fan i'm gutted. Since we were taking over by the Americans we are still no closer to Chelsea or Manchester United and now sooner or later Manchester City. If we had 18 million for Barry why not use that to bring in Quaresma, why didn't Liverpool bid for Wright-Phillips. Ok Riera needs a few games before anyone can judge him, but we want quality like Torres and Mascherano. Liverpool need two new full backs definatley a rigt back. As with the stadium and transfers the Yanks are holding us up. Sell up and get out and go home. DIC would like to show you how its done properly.

Gavin Mccann (Manchester City fan) says...

What a night for City and the long-suffering supporters like me! Not only is Robinho one of the world's most exciting young players, but his signing is a Statement of Intent from the new owners that the 'Sleeping Giant' has finally awoke. Im also still scratching my head at City bidding £31m for Berbatov when we all knew he isnt worth THAT sort of money! Well done Spurs for cunningly using us and getting an extra few million out of the gullible United!!! But this all wont bring instant success over night.

Eddie Fitzpatrick says...

I am astounded that Arsenal did not buy another midfielder. Denilson and Diaby are simply not good enough and we will be found wanting. Fabregas has the weight of the team on his shoulders. He needs a break. Rosicky coming back will be an asset as his best position is through the centre so I think that can take some pressure of Fabregas but we are short down the centre defensively and this will come back to bite us.

Derek Nicholson (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

I am pleased that the Berbatov issue has finally been resolved and that the transfer window is now closed. We can now get on with getting the team playing together and getting some points on the board. I am a bit disappointed with the Spurs board as I think it was important for them, and for football that they continued with their case against Manchester United. Unfortunately they didn't and Man U have now got their player. I am not blaming them entirely though, Spurs should have come out and said the player is not for sale and that would have been that. I think Berbatov's behaviour has been awful recently too, whether you want to leave a club or stay you should always give 100% right up to the end. Anyway, it is done now, I thank him for what he has given Tottenham during his time there and I hope that he does well at his new club. Maybe not too well against Spurs though :-)

Selina Collishaw says...

I think it's absolutely disgusting the way United have reached this deal, they had no permission from Spurs to talk to the player let alone have a medical!! it appears to be one rule for Old Trafford and the proper rules for everyone else, and no it is not sour grapes as I totally agree with other comments about Berba showing no loyalty and blending into the background in tough games and have thought this for some time. I hope what the papers are saying is true and Daniel Levy insists the FA throw the rule book at United for breach of transfer regulations.

Mike Stebbings (West Ham United fan) says...

What is going on at West Ham?!? Short at the back after the sale of Anton Ferdinand, we bring no-one in, and then sell George McCartney!!! We have made our best start to a premiership season in years (stick that in your pipe critics) however i feel that these two sales and no new signings have only damaged our chances of making any progress at all. Now, id be happy to finish 15th in the table. So much for the promise of European football from the new board! BOARD OUT!!!

Mike Potter (Manchester City fan) says...

Yesterday was quite possible the greatest day in City's history and to top it off by signing Robinho was amazing. He is a top player and looking forward to watching him for the blues this season. I cant wait to see what this season and beyond brings for us and Im looking forward to the ride. Yesterday was just the begining and there are going to be plenty more world class players gracing Eastlands sooner rather than later. Come on City!!!

Huck Smithsonian (Manchester City fan) says...

Robinho is a smashing signing for City, but I'm afraid that we might end up like Leeds, spending so much on a few players (Jo and SWP as well, though not to this extent). However, I think that we can improve on last season's position to at least 5th, I think, with SWP, Robinho, Jo providing the goals that were missing. I think that Arsenal might pay the price for not having bolstered defensive midfield, too. Liverpool have not strengthened the flanks much as well, even with Riera, Degen and Dossena, so I think this season will still be a 2-way race between Chelsea and Man Utd as before.

Terry Harrison (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

As a Spurs supporter I am sorry to see Berbatov leave. However, he has never denied that he wanted to play for Man United. His performances for Spurs at the latter end of the season, when United first showed their interest in him, were very poor! His petulance, on and off the field, was met with distain from players and supporters alike! I wish him well at United, but beware if he 'spits his dummy'!

Adam Lawson (Liverpool fan) says...

Yes Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea were quiet on Monday, but thats because we made the most of the transfer window instead of leaving it stupidly late to make expensive signings of over rated players. Chelsea made good signings over the summer, adding Deco and Bosingwa to an already strong squad...i agree Arsenal may have some problems this season with their lack of seasoned/experienced players to lead them. Liverpool had a very active transfer window taking on 1 goalkeeper, 2 defenders, 1 winger and 3 strikers (and a host of youngsters to add to their already strong youth side). Whereas Man Utd have signed how many players this season? ONE! and you talk about Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea all being Quiet?!

Oli Parker (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

Where's the defensive midfielder (midfield general) that Tottenham need? I think the 'good' result against Chelsea at the weekend has counted against getting some needed players in. I'm looking forward to seeing Fraizer Campbell, but i think we should have signed someone with more experience. Also, a special thanks goes out to Man City after bumping Berba's asking price up, which resulted in Man Utd having to meet our demands.

Stephen Gowers says...

I just cannot believe West Ham. I waited anxiously right through to midnight watching Sky Sports News last night for nothing, except selling our only recognised left back when Curbs stated that "no one else will leave". Our chairman's vision when he bought us was to turn us into a top team challenging for European football and honours, we have no chance if we continue to sell our best players. It's a joke, it's not Curbs who should go, it's the board, but it's becoming obvious that Curbishley is being managed out. Slaven Bilic will come in and leave when a better offer comes along, just like he did when he played for us!

Conor Hamilton (Manchester United fan) says...

Shame on all the so-called Utd supporters who called for Fergie's head yesterday ! His lack of interest in other players during the transfer window showed he was confident of getting his man - more confident than some obviously !

Freddie Lwere says...

Will Arsene Wenger get the sack, 4 yrs without a trophy, why should he lie to us fans promising he would bring in a player and not, I renewed my ticket on the basis of that

Jamie Long (manchester united fan) says...

I am delighted we have got our man. Although I am quite wary as to how his personality can change. Whether or not it is due to him originally being denied a move to United in the first place is a factor in this, who knows? But on the field he is a very talented number 9 and he is a striker who can come in and really make a difference.

George Chalmers (Manchester United fan) says...

Bex Medway (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

Berbatov is a waste of space! Yes hes a great player but he's only going to perform for united when he wants to!! United seem desperate to sign our players (Carrick........hes not exactly ived up to the hype either) and they still struggle! I dont think Berbatov is going to like that hes going to be third favourite either. But thanks man utd you've puffed up our bank balance!

Sanjiv Sondh (Manchester United fan) says...

Berbatov will prove to be a great signing. We will conquer Europe yet again this season and attack on all domestic fronts! The new dimension he will bring to us will be invaluable. Nice one Fergie!

John Clarke says...

So Robinho " I only want to play for Chelsea" has now signed for Man City. £32.5 million a huge fee but obviously worth it. I had always had a high respect for Real Madrid but not any more. The way they acted over Ronaldo and the Robinho saga has left a bitter taste in my mouth. They were never going to sell to Chelsea. The city of Manchester spent over £60 million yesterday, good luck to Man City, it's about time the true Manchester team had a bit of success!

Posted 08:31 2nd September 2008

Tim Pritchard (Liverpool fan) says...

i'd hate to sign berbatov... ok, so he's a great player... but clubs should be built on loyalty and team spirit... none of which he has shown... Shame we wouldn't land barry but hopefully riera sorts our left side out... as for rumours of barton to pompey? ... eurgh. barton to nowhere. His 'performance' coming on as a sub was disgraceful...
