For David Beckham I feel for him it's not the way to finish a great career he should go to South Africa just for his experience to rub off on the other players maybe part ot the backroom staff,We cannot waste such knowledge. But out the ashes of such sorrow it'smaybe the time to give someone younger like Johnson of City to given a chance

What a great shame. He always gives 110% in any game he plays. He has never had speed but his awareness of the game has always overcome this.Like the late great Bobby Moore was never gifted with pace but it did not detract from his reading of the game.As an O's supporter we always hoped he would end his career with his local team. Get well soon Becks.

The whole world was so excited to see Beckhams last World Cup... Its still possible... WE STILL BELIEVE...

I had a complete rupture of the achilles when I was 36 - and was back playing badminton 3 3/4 months after doing it - so if I can recover that quick then who knows maybe with all the physio after the op which Becks could get there maybe an outside chance he makes it. Come on Becks!!!!

Have you all gone mad, Beckham is a bit part player in an old has been Milan team, how would he have added anything to our world cup squad. Though Beckham did drag us virtually single handed to the world cup through qualifying many years ago culminating in the glorious free kick against Greece, that was his last telling contribution in a white shirt. he has been a spectator at the past 2 world cups due to injury and tabloid headlines. Beckham is now not going to be the main focus of the tabloids allowing the rest of the team to focus on actually achieving for once at the finals. Beckham was a good player unfortunately that player was many years ago.

If anyone can recover BECKS can, he is the heart and sole of the England team, and we so so need him there. But more than anything if any football player deserves to win the world cup its BECKS he is a true lionheart and wears the shirt with the pride as it should, be is a shinning example to all, as well as a great great footballer. Our prayers are with you BECKS.

Thank god, with that pensioner out of the way the door is wide open for a younger, fitter, player

Sad day for world football. He's a true gentleman and doesn't deserve this... Hope youngsters will learn from him.
Posted 06:31 15th March 2010
He will be missed. Experience does count and he has bags of it !!
Posted 06:26 15th March 2010
My heart goes out to Becks. Great leader for England and I wish him a speedy recovery. Another sad day for our WC squad...
Posted 06:25 15th March 2010
This is a disaster 4 both beckham and england..he's a wonderful player who deserved to have been in this comin world cup finals..his contribution in the qualifiers was huge and it's sad that he might miss out on the competition. Either way i wish him a quick recovery.
Posted 06:22 15th March 2010
Utterly gutted. Should still take him in the squad, even if he's not gonna be used. Didn't Sven take Theo Walcott and not use him?????
Posted 06:19 15th March 2010
Hopefully this is Deja Vu of 2002 and he gets fit for the WC.He would be great for England. With the form Wazza is in ,his crosses would be irreplaceable.Praying for a miracle ...cos no one can bend it like Beckham...GEt well soon !!!!!!!1

what a shame.....for becks. He has in the past been an iconic figure. People have critisised him for his flaws both on and off the pitch, but seem to forget that at his best there was probably no other hardworking midfielder for club and country than him. Not sure if he (when fit) could have commanded a place in the england squad. Thinking that now with this injury and taking into account of his age, that maybe he bows out of his active playing career. I truly feel sorry for him and wish him all the best

l watched the game last night,Beckham was miles in front as the best player on the field! Absolutely gutted that he has sustained this injury,England will definately be the poorer without his unique ability, people like Mckeever obviously has no idea of what a great player is! His comments, lack common sense and logic. Beckham was fit as a butcher dog and those who said his legs had gone,if they watched the game should be blown away...so much crap, working with pace all over the pitch, there has always been an element that is just jeolous of this superb player and some of the media should have been sacked for thier comments for knowing nothing about football! David you have Been one of the greats in the English game! and My idol since Bobby Charlton!!
Posted 05:50 15th March 2010
This is a bad day for England, Hope it all goes well for Beckhams recovery and maybe we will see him at the world cup doing something to help if its playing or giving the other players advice
Posted 05:44 15th March 2010
A message to all those idiots who are slagging off becks ..... He has and always will be a great role model for all the next generation of players out there .. his passion for his country ... his commitment to the cause .. and his pure dedication to football will never be forgotten. when you can pass a ball like he can - you don't need to be able to take players on (Lennon, Wright-Phillips, Walcott take note). So 'back off' all you no-brainers who claim to be football fans !! PS: Take him to the world cup regardless as a coach or anything .... we need his input and experience.
