Steven Gerrard insists he will not call time on his England career despite the World Cup disappointment.Back to story
Nobody can convince me that wellying a ball 3/4 way up the pitch and wonder why it comes straight back was the right tactics. This was found out years ago when teams did short give and go the way up the pitch.Embarrasing I sat in disblief

Its taken one statement from gerrard to rule himself out of walking away from England after a poor show but he still wont say a word on his liverpool future.. Great player but if he wants to go then just go and if hes staying why doesnt he just say. Same goes for Torres, you wont ever emulate Daglish (his greatest hero apparently) by walking away now, both players need to stay and fight for the club and put last seasons wrongs right.

Can any one tell me wich player was better then Gerrard in the squad people are just talking nonsense. Plz try to respect your national team then you can learn to respect players keep your mind open his a captain of England national.

Its a real shame. He needs to hang those boots up and head off to Spain. Not a real captain for England, did not deliver. We need a clear out, Gerrard, Terry, HESKEY especially, Personally I think the manager is the wrong man for the job, anyone that brings on Heskey with 20mins to go is a seriously poor manager, but the FA have no accountability so we will continue to be disappointed. Thank goodness the prem starts soon.

We have had the same England team for the past 5 years and have never performed . Even in friendlies the crowd get bored after twenty minutes because they know there is no Heart in the team and it has been painful to watch . The team is in essence picked by the journo of the Uk papers as no England manager has had the courage to get rid of the under performers and the time to build a team based on the under 21 , 19 or 17 england squads. Hopefully the lesson has been learnt and we can look forward to a better future for England Football

YOU KNOW WHAT - FORGET IT!! This site used to be a great forum for good intelligent discussions about club and country but now it is full of blinkered people who let there small minded club views and loyalities get in way of honest assessments. So although i find it a real shame I will not comment on the rubbish spoken above - Sky probably won't post this anyway

Gerrard played his heart out. He stepped up but no on efollowed. lampard played great agianst germany a goal and cross bar twice. I say that we drop everyone except rooney and start planning for the future start to have gerrard lampard rooney defoe practiceing with the u-17's and ups because in 4 years they will be energetic faithful down to earth 21's who can play all day and bring the cup home

We all moan about the players performances - myself included - but surely, they are only trying to do what the manager and coaches have asked them to do. Before the WC, we would have ALL picked Gerrard and Rooney as definate starters. Now everybody is slating them both and saying they are rubbish. That is ridiculous. The tactics were wrong. Yes, there is obviously something wrong with the camp too, but players can only play as well as the system allows them too. We will never know what jobs the coaches gave each player to do and so its unfair to slate them. I would agree with lack of passion tho - first thing is to make EVERY player SING the national anthem with pride.

i am a big fan of s gerrard, but sadly his best days have been and gone, sad but true
Posted 09:36 7th July 2010
hes an idiot if he does. he is the best player in the team, i love him!

Look at the world best player Messi who also under performed during the world cup. I some how doubt he will be dropped for the next world cup.. We defo need new younger players in the squad but at the same time a few mature old dog i.e Steve G, JT and Garath Barry. The rest i.e Lamps, James, Heskey, Crouch etc can all go to h*ll for all I care. The Germans only had 2 players over the age of 30 and no older than 33. the rest all between 20 and 25. Now that is a world cup winning side. out with the old and in with the new!

i agree with what Gareth Coom's comment...

les hope gerrard stays with liverpool this season

Alot of people are pinning their hopes on Joe Hart being the saviour of english goalkeeping. However, how many of you would pick him ahead of Shay Given, which is the choice Mancini has ahead of him. I can see hart warming the bench all season, unless he goes out on loan again. A better option will be Ben Foster, once he has a run in the birmingham team and gets his confidence back he will show his true worth, and show he is the best english keeper at the moment. Also we seriously missed Owen Hargreaves, the best defensive midfielder in the world when fit. He would have been all over Dempsey in the USA game, no shot, no goal, England victory.

Please Gerrard, just quite now. Useless international player over 80+ caps. Always excused, never dropped. Pathetic.
Posted 00:11 7th July 2010
there are some really poor comments on here.and ye as a reds fan i think gerard didn't have a good world cup but none of them did.gerard could not do it all by himself why play the best midfielder in the world on the left witch we fans all no its not where he plays . i think gerard should stay on and lead the next genaration of england players and get rid of the rest they they clearly dont support gerard or capelo so time for change now

Sorry for Gerrard, but as in the Spanish national team several years ago, the English squad needs a complete renovation. Take the example of Raul in Spain, it is very clear and simple: since the coach left him aside, they have become a really good team with own character, good displays and title(s). A really dangerous team every nation respects and fears. Now the time has come for England to act alike. By other way I hope he is not leaving the club that has made himself a football player, I can't see him performing as well as here in any other place. Anyhow, the best of luck for him!

I'm a big, big fan of Stevie G, the only fault I can find is, he takes on to much for England, maybe for the lack of effort from Lampard. No, you keep going Gerrard, hopefully Capello, who I also support, will see the error of his ways and put him behind Rooney. They read each other so well. Oh, and just a mention to the Man U and Chelsea fans, take a look at your on failings in the World Cup, nothing I can see to boast about there.

(((((((Alan Neilly (Manchester United fan) says... Personally I think Stevie should be dropped, as should Green, James, Barry, Rio, Upson, JT, King, Heskey, Defoe and Lampard aswell as others))))))))) Why was ROONEY NOT TOP OF THIS LIST - He was by far the WORST player amongst the England flops & should neveradorn the England shirt again - HE WAS A DISGRACE !!!!!!!!!
