Ben Gallagher (Liverpool fan) says...

Messi..... Laughable... just laughable.... Its been Forlan... I think hes scored 3 in what has to be said an average team. Makes the whole team tick.... Hes been outstanding and would get my vote.

Craig Hilton (Norwich City fan) says...

Interesting to see so many Barcelona players playing for Spain. Why can't England just play the mostly English Villa team, probably stand more of a chance!

John Apthorpe says...

Andrea Iniesta has had a wonderful season for Barcelona, and has carried that on into the World Cup Finals, he has been excellent in every game, he has controlled the midfield, taking pressure off the defence, in doing so it enables the forward players more possesion on the ball.

Christian Brand (Liverpool fan) says...

Asamoah Gyan?? Really? That is astounding to me. Surely Klose, Robert Vittek, and Landon Donovan should have trumped him on this list.

Adam H (Birmingham City fan) says...

Messi in there? Who done nothing but run into blind alleys all tournament? Yeah sure, great pick there FIFA. The award should go to Diego Forlan or Wesley Sneijder.

Adam D (Manchester United fan) says...

Surprised to see Asamoah Gyan in there due to the penalty miss, I think Kevin-Prince Boateng was Ghana's main man and had an outstanding tournament. Villa/Iniesta or Sneijder/Robben will win it dependant on who wins the final and in what manner but Mesut Ozil and Bastien Schweinsteiger should be recognised for outstanding performances. Muller and Forlan both deserve a run-in as well particularly the latter for his constant contribution. Its not easy to play as a front man when you have to keep coming back deep to be involved (just ask Wayne Rooney) but Diego Forlan made it look easy and his long-range efforts were outstanding in a tournament where there weren't a great amount of long-range efforts even finding the target.

Terence Walsh (Manchester United fan) says...

First of all, why has messi been nominated, he did the same as Ronaldo, Rooney, Gerrard, Torres, all the french/italian team amongst other massive let downs. I think Sneijder has stood out more than anyone, from midfield he has scored the most goals and has been the most vibrant hard working player of the games. Go on Wes, win the cup, then come to old trafford and do it all again with us.

Eric Quinn (Newcastle United fan) says...

Wesley Sneijder or Xavi being the difference all tournament for there country.

Dan Dove (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

Very sad that yet again no defensive players make the list - especially with such a low goal tally - does that not tell you something???

Darth Worth (Luton Town fan) says...

david villa to win ! hes been an outstanding player this tournament, much better than fernando torres i hope he continues to impress at barca !

David Parry (Manchester United fan) says...

This has been the worst World Cup Finals that I have seen since I watched my first in 1974. The proof is in the fact that Messi has made the shortlist for Player of the Tournament as he has not shown us anything to suggest that he is World Footballer of the Year.In fact he has been poor in every game. The people that put his name on the list need to go to spec savers. Cant disagree with any of the other names on the list

Mike Stanton (Manchester City fan) says...

Diego Forlan for me. I know this usually goes to a player in the winning teams but i have not seen his have a bad game. He made a defence team an attacking threat connecting a deep midfield with the attack, costantly finding room for himself, alway looking for that killer ball or getting with 30 yards on the goal and letting off thnderous shot's at the goal. He has been all round class and was the main reason Uruguay got as far as they did.

Ashley Sill (Chelsea fan) says...

After watching every second of the world cup, how did Arjen Robben make it? I feel he has been paticularly poor by his standards in a team that has scraped through to the finals. What about Thomas Mueller!? He has been sensational!

Posted 14:40 9th July 2010

Chloe Prior says...

I think either villa, sneijder or ozil will win it. Because villa and sneijder have scored the goals for their countries which have got them to where they are now. But most things germany did going forward came through Ozil.

Tim Holloway (Manchester United fan) says...

What about Wayne? Played out of his skin, I can't understand such a glaring ommission.

Posted 14:36 9th July 2010

Ryan Summerscales (Alloa Athletic fan) says...

Bastian Schweinsteiger, has been nothing short of world class, and is still under rated by so many people. He's pulled the strings in their young team, who are probably the team of the tournament, certainly most surprising. Defintely player of the world cup. Spain to win, they play the beautiful game the right way and would be worthy champions.

Posted 14:31 9th July 2010

Alex Kyrios (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

This is like a bad parody. Messi STILL made the list?

Posted 14:31 9th July 2010

John Waite (Celtic fan) says...

I think Iniesta of Spain deserves it! He is the greatest player in the world right now!
