Jake Clark says...

Mike Tyson - He was such a great boxer, speed ,strength and the desire to succeed at all costs in some cases that was his downfall but in his prime he could take anyone you just name it.

Adam Baker says...

Sugar Ray Leonard and Ali, Sampras and Federer, Hendry and O'Sullivan, Bristow and Taylor, Woods and Nicklaus, Best and Souness, Blanco and Johnson, Jordan and James, Senna and Stewart... There's always two standouts in any sport but the most mercurial of all was Wayne Gretzky, the ultimate in sport re-definition.

Has to be Paul Scholes! The man is a genius and comes across as such a genuine man.

Muhammad Ali! Greatest Sports personality to ever live! everyone knows his name & what sport he's associated with... even if they don't know what he looks like!!! A true legend!

Hero Worship says...

The show should be called 'Legends' not 'Heroes'. I have more heroes than I could fit on a page. Jason Robinson, Linford Christie, Martin Johnson, Martin Offiah, David Beckham, Frank Bruno- to name but a few. For arguments sake however 'The Hero' for me is always going to be Carl Lewis. An athlete of Super Human proportions.

Stephen Grocutt says...

Neil Back - Was an integral part of the World Cup Winners in 2003, despite years of people saying he was to small. Try telling the Aussies he was too small. Amazing, a still top try scorer for a forward in the Premier League.

Dan Mack says...

Zinedine Zidane! He is God!!!

Cameron Adam says...

My hero is Tiger Woods. He is like a golfer from another planet. Only 33 and i believe that we can put any doubts and questions to rest about any other player through out history and present. Tiger is, at the moment the greatest talent the game of golf has ever seen and will be the greatest talent of all time.

Sporting Heroes...... Quite simply mine is Martin Johnson, great leader, great motivator, great captain.

Gavin Beale says...

Bryan Robson-could win you matches with a tackle or a goal the most complete midfielder i have ever seen, never afraid of a tackle or putting himself in harms way for the benefit of the team

David Ornsby says...

My all time hero has to be Alan Shearer. Being a Newcastle fan waa great when Shearer signed for his local town...Snubbing lucarative offers and guaranteed silverware for playing for your local club says everything you need to know about the man. A world class striker, Englands modern day greatest striker could score from 30 yards one minute to thumping headers and tap ins. Possibly the complete striker. Always played the game hard and gave his all. Shearer could carry a team on his own, and he will for ever be worshipped at St James Park.

Amit Puri says...

Sachin Tendulkar. International superstar since 16, true child prodigy that lived upto the expectations. Allmost every batting record in the book, and still going strong. An inspiration to a generation of cricketers, the closest thing to perfection batting. Great, legendary and genius are the most over-used words in the dictionary, but he is all three in there truest meanings. Throw in the fact that has played under more pressure than any other sportsman in history, has all the money in the world, and yet is still grounded and humble, and you can see why so many people admire the great man.

Luke Scanlon says...

The choice of a sporting hero is a tough one, so many over so many years in sports. If i had to choose one it'd be John Terry. Never in one player have i seen so much passion, so much desire to win, and not for the money or the medals, but for the team. He gives 100% every game, and yes that includes screaming at the ref, but that just highlights his passion. Never have i seen someone so willing to put their body on the line for the sake of winning. Off the field he is a true gent, signing autographs and taking time out for the fans. John Terry - a true hero

James Barker says...

My hero is Brian Clough. He started as a fantastic striker (251 goals in 274 league games!!) an went on to work miracles at Derby then Forest. No one has ever or will ever come close to doing what he did at Forest.

David Morrison says...

I'm 16 and my sporting hero has to be Henrik Larsson. What a player and the main reason i fell in love with the game of football. The perfect role model for any youngster who wants to make it as a footballer. He played with so much passion and played a good clean game which is hard to find in such a gifted player

Matt W says...

Tony Yeboah was my hero wen i was a young boy i was about 5 or 6 when he signed for Leeds and in the short time he was at Leeds showed what a genius he was i remember watching the Leeds Reserves when they played at Halifax Towns Stadium, The Shay and Yeboah was playing and i shouted when he came near where i was sat and he waved and stuck his thumbs up at me and it made my day and i still remember that now over 12 years ago haha! LEEDS LEEDS LEEDS M.O.T!!

Billy Bremner, for me, was almost the complete footballer. He had a knack of scoring crucial goals - like in the 1965 FA Cup semi-final replaty, and in the 1970 second semi-final replay against Man Utd, which I watched from the stands. He had a telepathic understanding with Johnny Giles, and they were the best midfield duo in the land. I was also lucky enough to see Georgie Best play at Old Trafford many times - he was a pure genius.
