what is Ian Corninsh on about???? when did hatton offer witter a fight?? never. Witter has been chasing hatton for years, and it was hatton that said witter brings nothing to the table and by that he was referring to money. Witter would knock out hatton in the same fashion mayweather did & hatton knows it. Witter is champ and still offers Hatton a fight, yet he still ducks him and would rather fight another bum.

Im not being funny but last time i heard Hatton said he doesn't care about the money its the belts that matter, well Witter's the one with the belt and now he's ducking him to take the fights with the bigger purse i cant help but feel hes being hypocritical!! Its about time we had a big british match up and if Hatton had more respect for the real boxing fans and not the bandwagon watchers he would take the fight. Also if he truly knows he would win he would take the fight and have done with the increasing scepticism in his ability.

i can not beleive some of the garbage people have been coming out with concerning Hatton/Witter. Witter is the one ducking Hatton. He has been offererd the fight three times, has it happened? No.Why? The latest Witter excuse was Hatton brought nothing to the table.Of course not ,he's only a six time world champion at two weights, not to mention hugely popular and a "big name".Witter only mouths of when he knows the fight can't happen. He dosen't really want it,he knows he'd get knocked out, unless of course he did the same as against Judah and ran for the entire fight. I have to wonder why so many people are pretenting to be Witter fans now(we all know he dosen't have any) is it because they want to bad mouth Hatton now that he has lost?Surely not, does not sound like a lot of sports fans in this country does it? Witter should shut up and go and beat someone of note.

Why doesnt Witter fight someone hattons fought and try and do a better job....urango would blow witter away...get himself a name in the states and maybe someting might happen....hattons not ducking anyone, HBO & Golden Boy Promotions pick the opponents and Witter isnt big enough or good enough...just an average fighter with a world class mouth like all the ingle boys! As for the WBC belt...belts dont mean the same as what they did unfortunately...Ring Magazine is the one to hold....which Mr Hatton does...hard luck Witter!! I remember years ago in Naseem Hameds Peak hearing from a good source that Naz knocked Junior out is sparring...he was also wobbled by Vivian Harris in that fight...old usual Glass Jaw which hatton would shatter....my word im rambling on now....!

I have to agree with many of the comments posted below, as much as I like Hatton - I do think he, or his team have been avoiding Witter. Its simple, even people who do not follow boxing could see that Hatton's style would be perfect for Witter. I think it is an oppurtunity for a great fight and, who knows - maybe it could lead to a rivalry as great as the Benn Vs Eubank era, should the fight ever be made!! To save face, Hatton should take the fight, Witter has been calling him out for so long that it has become embarrassing. I am initially a Ricky fan, however, I have to admire the way Junior has gone about his business - its not that he needs Ricky, he WANTS him to show that he the best in Britain and capable of operating at the highest level. Please take the fight Ricky, and give the UK fans something to truly look forward to.

"why should hatton fight witter??? what has he done??" He's won the WBC belt, so more than enough. Witter's the one with the prestigous title. Hatton has nothing. Like I said, the reason that this fight isn't happening is because Hatton knows he will lose. If he didn't then he'd take Witter on to silence the crtics and win the belt that everyone wants (WBC).

hatton would destroy junior!! junior isnt in his league!! the reason hatton is fighting a so called "nobody" is to reward the fans for their support!! palie mallinagi lies in wait, why should hatton fight witter??? what has he done?? when he gets a bit of recognition then yeah maybe he should consider it

Iam a big Ricky Hatton fan but this year is the time for the BATTLE OF BRITAIN to happen, if Ricky retires without facing Witter then he goes way down in my estimation, Witter holds THE belt in this division so why does Ricky not fight him..???????????? i have a sneaky feeling he dont fancy his chances.. If Ricky wants to go down in History as one of the best british boxers of all time then he MUST face Wittter or when people speak of him in years to come the Witter situation will always crop up and tarnish anything he had done..!!!!!!!

Micky Colwell - No. Hatton has done nowhere hear enough to earn the title of 'legend'. Fighters such as Hagler, Hearns, Barrera, De La Hoya are legends, not Hatton. The simple answer to the question is that Hatton knows full well he will lose. Witter has more than enough to beat him and in doing so, would prove that Hatton's over-rated, and he doesn't want that. I don't think this fight will happen, although I hope it does and then, it'll retire Hatton. However, if Hatton was to beat Witter then I'd eat some humble pie.

Instead of going on about fighting Hatton, Witter should go and fight some big names and then he will have an argument for the Hatton fight, lets be honest Witter has fought nobody, Harris was a nobody and past it as well end of story. He needs to fight Torres or Malignaggi or even Kotelnik, somebody that he can then say "look I am at least no. two in the division to you Ricky so lets get it on" then it wont be about paydays coz Ricky wouldnt be able to say that. But in truth Witter isnt even in first class on Rickys flight to the hall of fame, he has beat no one of any note AT ALL!! and he goes on about Ricky far, far too much. Witter word of advice, give it a rest, go out and KO some other title holder and show some respect and then the big fights will come looking for you. Show people how good you are instead of mouthing off about how good you are, YOU ARE NO MAYWEATHER!!

Hatton makes out he is very humble so that's why he had a dressing room full of celebrites in vegas and not some of his loyal fans and he says fighting in Britain is for his loyal british fans so why is he on pay per view Ricky sort yourself out.

I got bored listening to Ricky Hatton slagging of Junior Witter. The best way to prove who is the better boxer is in the ring. Its great to have two British boxers fighting the title of champion of their division. It's time Ricky stopped the verbal sparring and got the real thing done. I think it would make a very good fight for both men. The winner could then say they were the undisputed champion!!!

How can hatton seriously consider himself the number 1 light welter weight in the world. He says witter brings nothing to the table, he is the wbc lightwelter weight champion, that belt has been around the waist of pretty boy floyd. So how can hatton fight some nobody laczano when he has the chance to bounce back straight from defeat of mayweather to capture the biggest prize in any weight devision and thats the wbc belt. Well the only answer is money and the fact that he knows it wont be a comfortable fight. In my opinion witter would beat hatton convincingly. Hatton would walk straight into witter's left upercut time and time again.

Hattan wants to be remembered as the PEOPLE'S CHAMPION but how could this be as the fans want the biggest showdown which is Wiiter VS Hatton. So come on Hatton give Wiiter the payday just like MayWeather gave you the payday... Somebody got to do it!!,and what a contest it will be if you ACCEPT. Hatton's more of a business mind person now as to is earlier ESTATE mentality!!!!. He wont fight Witter!!!! cos he got his reputation on the line!!!! As they they what is thrown up must come back DOWN and Hatton will come down!!!!!...

Its nice to read these comments and see that a number of people actually know boxing and know what their talking about rather than just blindly following the more popular Hatton. Ricky doesnt want to fight him as witter is a small name who poses a huge risk, very possibly beating him or best case for hatton is him winning but not looking good doing so. Witter is a good fighter with a good record losing just one to zab judah who went distance with floyd and gave him a lot more trouble than ricky did. Added to this witter only had short notice for this fight. Some may argue who has he beat, an over the hill harris? But same goes for hatton, his main wins against kosta and castillo are against aging warriors past their prime who have been in many tough battles. If hatton doesnt fight witter he can never be remembered as a great as hes avoiding the best of his generation and the most obvious fight as witter holds the main belt of his devision. Ricky stop running scared, your fan base is big and loyal enough to follow you even if you lost so dont worry your career wont be over if witter beats you

A couple of months ago we were all raving about British boxing being in a new golden era. But since Hatton's loss, Maccaranelli's capitulation, Calzaghe's unconvincing and controversial win, it seems that our best prospect is Haye. However, I've involved in boxing for years, and take my word for it, Haye is extremely overrated. His power will be nulified against the heavyweights and his defence isn't great either. He's also too disrespectful and arrogant and I'm not so sure that the British public will take to him in the way they have to Hatton for example. So the next big thing may very well be Witter and we'd all love to see Hatton vs Witter, so come on boys get it on.

there is a lot of nonsense talk coming from a minority of people on here that think that witter is actually better than he is. i am an avid boxing fan and there is no denying that he is fast and has a good movement in the ring but i reckon on english turf with an english referee the ricky hatton that is a champion would be allowed to do what he wasnt allowed to do in las vegas and get in on his opponent and pound away at the body. now any person on here that disagrees with this decision obviously didnt watch hatton-mayweather as not once did the ref allow the fight to get up close. if hed had who knows what would of happened!!!! its all fine and well been able to move but getting a body blow from the body blow expert will slow any fighter down and when that happens and the speed and movents is gone the hitter would become the quitter

Witter is too skillful for Hatton, that's why hatton camp stay away. Hatton is a one dimential figher, he had no plan B versus Mayweather and would suffer similar problems with Witter. Best for Hatton to stay away and retire after fighting those guys that suit his style.

Lee Courtney says...

Both fighters are top quality and are both good to watch at times, Hatton with a great punch output and awsome body punching Witter with powerful counter-punches from both angles. Both can also abslolutely stink, Ricky with his grab and punch John Ruiz impression and Witter not punching at all and just posturing. There is no doubt though that this fight needs to happen and Hatton is really letting himself and his fans down by not accepting the fight which is a 50-50 matchup. There are a couple of comments here that are ridiculous though. Trev saying Witter fot smashed up by the first top quality opponent. Presumably he means the Judah fight in which neither opponent landed much. As for Mark Crabtree your IDIOTIC quote about putting Junior in hospital is the sort of rubbish that gives boxing a bad name and I cannot believe it even made it onto this site.
