To all you haters and doubters...Khan's chin has got him this far!! I hope he puts this down to experience, which is always the best tutor!! I have supported him from day one and was probably one of the ten people to cheer him out of the ring last night, admittedly Prescott was the best fighter on the night but Khan has kept me entertained for a long time. I hope he takes the positives from this deep learning curve and comes back bigger and better to bite all you armchair supporters on the jacksie!!!! COME ON AMIR!!!!!! Love and best wishes for the future xxx

Well the warning signs have always been there with Amir Khan. We have seen him struggle in the past and I am not suprised that the step up was just too much for him. The sad but honest truth is that he simply isn't that good. He is lucky and has made millions from fighting 18 previous chumps and journeymen. Credit where it is due, I take my hat off to Breidis Prescott. At least there is a boxer on the scene we would like to see more of. As for Khan, the question should be; does he deserve another chance? The answer to that question is in his attitude and he also has to prove it not just by beating weaklings but by fighting and beating more fighters of Prescott's calibre. He is a nice lad but boxing isn't a place for sentiment. Look at Hatton, an undisputed legend but his star has faded since he lost to a great fighter in Mayweather. Regardless how young Khan is (22 isn't really that young) he was found wanting and a chin isn't developed over time, you are born with it as well as heart. Mayweather's secret is good defence, but he can also take a hard punch when his defence is breached - same goes for the best fighters including Hatton. Getting knocked out in the first round simply isn't champion material, so I am very confident in writing off his chances for the future.

I'm of the opinion that this is the best thing that could have happened to Amir. We will hopefully now see his true character and determination as a person to right his wrongs and go forward with his career. Yes he's been over-hyped (our medias fault) yes he seems over the top in stating how good he is (not yet... but will be) and yes he's probably made a bit of a hash in fixing what wasn't broken (in the form of his trainer, who to be honest, how much focus would you put on defensive skills if your man was knocking everyone in sight out in a handful of rounds?). This country expects the world of its sportmen, and while everyone believes he's been pampered, he has produced the goods against what was put in front of him which is all he can do, at the same time showing us where he has weaknesses. Perhaps i'm the only person who thought this, but he needed to receive a K.O. before we can see his real potential, as a polished and rounded boxer. He must now accept the weaknesses he has, because to be world class at anything you have to know in yourself where you need improvement and perhaps in a boxers case, your weak spots and where you need to defend the most. He will come back, but now is the time to really support Amir because this might just be the turning point onto a long hard road for our man to become a world class boxer.

Why is everyone so shocked khan got knocked out??? He was facing an opponent who had knocked out 17 in 19 fights. No disrespect but Gomez, a blown up super-feather who was far past his best, dropped him with ease. I wish Khan all the best for the future, but it dont matter how hard you train in the gym, you can't put muscles on your chin, and if you can't take a shot, you can't take a shot.

A glass chin never gets stronger only more brittle and his lack of defence from day 1 has been evident. Khan is an extremley talanted boxer but he is no fighter. Gomez had him hurt and to be fair to Gomez is a fighter who has been out of the fight game for a year and had khan worried. Amir needs to take a good look at himself annd go back to the drawing board. To be honest I never thought he would be world class looking at his last 4 fights., he looks good against no punchers but his defence has shown plenty of flaws. as somebody has said before if he ever gets the oppertunity to take on Hatton oh dear not a chance son think that was Mr Warren trying to get one over on his old mate

I think the way in which Khan crumbled was sad to see, however it could have been a lot worse, and I thank god that he was not seriously hurt. I might be alone here, but I do think the referee was shambolic in letting the fight go on after Khan hit the canvas the way he did first time around.

I feel Khan has been exposed for what he really is. It is a shame that he has had to be fed nobodies to build up his record as this has not helped him at all. Regardless of that, he does have a very suspect chin which will be exposed again should he get into the ring with a huge puncher again. Sad to say it, but I can,t see a way back for Khan.

All the talk is about Khan failing and stuff, but nobody is talking about how impressive Prescott is!!!! If he was American they would be raving about this lad!!!

Anyone who knows anything about boxing saw this coming, the first half-decent fighter and he lasts less than a minute. Amir got a silver, Harrison a gold. Olympic boxing is a long way from good pro fighters. Amir don't believe your own hype, you've made your money, get out before you get seriously hurt. Hamed made the same mistake and fought a decent fighter but he made his money too. For the real deal look no further than Joe Calzaghe.

It was only a matter of time before Khan's glass chin was exposed after being knocked down in previous fights by not renowned punchers. Hopefully this will show Khan that he doesn't have a divine right to become world champ which a lot of people in his camp seem to think. I'm sure Khan will come back and progress to world level, but will his camp try and dodge any fighter who is known for being a big hitter? The psychological damage from this fight for Khan will be his biggest problem. We can only hope he doesn't end up like Harrison as somebody with great expectations that didn't deliver.

Listen, I have been saying for a long time now that Khan has two very real flaws for me. Firstly, he does not have a decent chin and, secondly, he - worse - has hardly any defence whatsoever. These two things alone will generally spell disaster when you step up against someone who is equally fast and can seriously punch! To be honest, what staggered me most about Khan was his foolish and very amaturish approach to the fight. It seems that he has taken to heart too much the old addage that the best form of defence is offence. I was totally shocked that having suffered such a quick and brutal knock down, the first thing he did was attempt to go at the guy? He should have covered up and taken a knee has soon as Prescott so much as jabbed him. That would of given him a desperately needed eight second rest again. Then, when he got up again, he would needed to have run the entire round, diving in for the clinch as soon as the guy got near him. Had Khan have done this, he possibly would have got over the awful shock of the first round and may have been able to box himself into the fight a bit, all the more wary and respectful of Prescott from that point on. What bothered me, is that Khan had no instinctive idea how to do this basic boxing function - self preservation and safety first. I think it a tad too premature to write Khan off... he is young and some of the best fighters of recent times have bounced back from bad losses. However, Khan's ability to do this will require a rather radical adjustment to his boxing attitude and temprament. Firstly, he MUST, MUST develop a really good and effective defence to make up for his chin which is made of Bone China. He has very good speed already and can bang pretty hard, but he will be absolutely nothing until he learns about proper effective defence! He needs a good defensive trainer to take him back to proper basics. Can he do it? Lets hope so for his sake.

Why is everyone analysing the match so much and questioning Khan's chin? He got caught with an awesome punch and didnt really do much else wrong. I guarantee no matter who you are, you get caught like that, you won't be getting back up. The fight lasted only under a minute, so how everybody can talk about Amir's defence, tactics etc is mad, just give credit where it's due and applaud Prescott. Sometimes you dont have to do anything wrong to lose. Amir's a great lad, has age on his side and I am sure he will come back stronger. He is not arrogant as some have suggested and with his obvious talents he will fulfil his ambitions. He has given the British public many nights to remember, so when he needs them the most don't desert the boy.

Believe me he will back and will not let British Boxing down. He has learned his lesson now of being over-confident and rushing in. He has to have patience in first rounds in future and just judge the oppenent's skill and power. Amir take your time with full focus and work hard. More ups and downs are the name of the game so don't be disheartened - work harder and give 'em it on the chin.

I am personally glad Khan finally met the ring floor! I know that he's a British boxer and us British should support our own, but this man is way too cocky and arrogant for his own good! I know nearly all boxers like to make a name for themselves and give a little fighting talk before a match, but Khan was one of those few who made his ego bigger than he could live up to and yes, he did actually live up to it for a a while, but his arrogance went way too far and finally someone managed to put him down a peg or two!

How typical of the 'armchair' experts to add their 'Sun readers' point of view! Okay, one defeat and a question mark over his ability to take a punch, better now than during a title fight - which he will get if he keeps learning from mistakes and hones his obvious talent. A british fighter we should champion, not dismiss after one defeat so early in his career.

Kyle Hampshire says...

Well to be honest I didn't think Amir would go down that quickly, but the fact is he has got a weak chin and you can't improve on that. It was a bad idea putting him in this kind of fight this early against a proven, accurate KO merchant and also a hard hitter. You could see in that first round when Prescott was jabbing him he was hurt already and we all knew he was in trouble. I also think he was trying to go somewhere too fast, he has got a lot more years left in him and a lot more to offer - I really hope he can bounce back from this!

Tufty Jr says...

Firstly, everyone knows Amir was not ready for this one. I was there last night and figured straight from word go Prescott looked better conditioned and slightly taller than Amir. Amir came running to him right from the off, he should have contained him in first round, to settle into the fight. But no, he rushed it. That aside, he needs to train a lot harder and be able to take a punch. His chin just can't take it at the moment! If Amir doesn't win his rematch, his career will be heading down the drain, just like Prince Naseem and many others in the past.

Yasin Bagas says...

Amir's defeat in such a fast time came as a bit of shock but what we all knew was that it was coming, before this fight he fought boxers that weren't going to trouble him and even then he got knocked down a few times so this fight was one step too far. I know Amir personally and I know he can bounce back from this defeat. What he needs is to get his confidence back and work on his defence, he's got power, speed and accuracy. Come on Amir, I'm definitely rooting for you to come back stronger and silence them doubters.

I think it was a lesson he needed to learn and any boxer would have gone down with those punches. He was cold and got caught with solid punches. I am sure if Khan would have thrown those punches Breidis would have been down too. I am sure Khan will come back from this. And for people who say Khan was talking arrogantly, I think all boxers do... that's how they bring the public in. Name me one boxer who says he is not going to win the fight. Khan is only 21, he took this step too quickly. I am sure he will be back, but it's a long hard road for him.

I am surprised with the amount of people that seem pleased to see a British boxer on the deck. Amir Khan, as well as boxers such as Hatton & Calzaghe, is over-hyped by the media. And now everyone is writing him off? Maybe this fight was too soon for him, but remember that he is only 21 and hopefully he will learn from this and come back as a better fighter. I still believe that he may become world champion one day and then he can look back at this defeat as one of the most important fights in his life as this could be the loss that he needed. Good luck Amir !
