How many up and comming Americans like Pavlik have they said joe will not fight? If he did fight and beat Pavlik they would be another Yank who would come along and says joe will not fight him as he is the next big thing. Remeber Lacy?....hahahahaha. There will always be a yank ready to try and prove himself and a lot of you guys would keep on slating Joe until he did get beat.

Who are these mugs who say calzaghe is gutless and not a great. Roy Jones avoided calzaghe like the plague when joe was in his prime and turned down a fight with joe many times. Calzaghe fought lacy in his prime, kessler in his prime and destroyed them both. Those two were deemed as unbeatable until they met joe. How can anyone doubt the greatness of joe calzaghe, unbeaten in the most competitative divison of all over a ten year period. Obviously these people who say he is not a great and gutless are not sports fans just people with no intellect at all!!!!

Calzaghe deserves to go down in history as an unbeaten fighter because unlike Floyd Mayfeather he has come from behind to win. Pavlik is clearly trying to catch Joe at what is now a good time for him (Pavlik) hoping Joe will not be at the hight of his powers. Calzaghe has nothing to prove and should not be drawn into any mind games with Pavlik. I agree, Kesseler might he too tough and strong for Pavlik. Long live the legend that is Joe Calzaghe................

Absolute joke this article. What on earth does calzaghe think he is going on about ?? His book is aptly titled 'Average Joe' for a reason. HE IS AVERAGE ! He's fought nobody. People bang on about the Jeff Lacy fight but they forget that Lacy had only had 20-odd fights. Thats not in his prime. Kessler is an ok fighter. Supreme build, but not neccesarily a great boxer. Hopkins..... need I mention about his prime ???? Jones - why didn't this fight go through 5 years ago...... coz Jones would have dispatched him like he did Woods (oh Woods-another fighter Calzaghe should have fought before he got too big for his own hype) He only won his title off a 'Past-Prime' Eubank. Taylor would beat him so would Pavlik and so would Froch Calzaghe is OK I dont mind him (as either a fighter or person) but the fact is he shouldn't be critising others for the one thing he's done all his career.

I believe that Joe Calzaghe would pummel Pavlik into dust. I also believe that dinosaurs roamed the Earth 4,000 years ago, but were all killed during the Caveman Wars.

Your Daddy says...

Sounds like Joe made that up why would he call out a unknown middleweight after beating Lacy ? Nobody knew who Pavlik was untill he beat Miranda and he wasnt even boxing in the same division as Calzaghe. Pavlik would crush Kessler, Jermain Taylor would have Kessler as well.

Sorry Joe but your the one who's gutless! You claimed the big guns have been avoiding you but this time its you who's hiding! You are not a legend killer!Hopkins was passed it when you fought him and scraped a win...yes scraped a points victory over a 43 year old victory. The fact is a 36 year ild Jones Jr of Hopkins would've knocked you flat out. You will never be a great cause you've never fought anyone in their prime.

I think this is just rubbish of course Pavlik would not have wanted to fight Calzagi in 2006 he was still trying to establish himself and now that he has done that he can call out big names. Calzagi is scared of loosing to pavlik

LMAO... Talking of mouthing off, who's the guy that only fights people when they are over the hill. Why didn't Calzaghe fight Roy Jones and Hopkins when they were at their best??? Look, Joe is good but why mouth off about everyone else when you've hardly been a model pro yourself. If you had of fought these guys when they were in their prime, what your saying now would be justified. Truth is sunshine, you've been looked after by good management... keeping you away from these guys when they would have beaten you! Also, please stop stirring it up all the time... 'Kessler would beat him'... where was the 'Oh, by the way, does the world and his wife know I beat Kessler' comment? Fine, beat Roy Jones now, but can you honestly say you would have beaten him 8-10 years ago???? I doubt it!

Personally i'd love to see this fight happen. Both are excellent fighters in excellent form. If Calzaghe is to continue after this fight (who knows?), Pavlik has got to be on the top of his list. who else?

Samir Silverstein says...

In the post fight interview at the Lockett fight Pavlik was asked if he would like to fight Calzaghe. Pavlik yelled to the crowd "Is that what you want to see?" and the crowd roared. Pavlik then went on to say that Calzaghe is the biggest fight out there and he's always been about fighting the biggest fights. In terms of "calling people out" this is as clear as it gets. An open discussion about Calzaghe in the ring after Lockett. Calzaghe is a liar. It's also important to note his other big lie: Pavlik didn't turn him down after Taylor/pavlik I. Pavlik was obligated to a manadatory rematch. Anyone in the business knows that. Calzaghe says Pavlik turned him down. It's an outright lie. A bad lie, a horrible lie. Everybody knew that Pavlik was obligated to a mandatory re-match. And after that re-match was over Pavlik waited patiently for Calzaghe to beat Hopkins in the hopes of a super fight. Calzaghe is a frightened slap punching little girl and he'll wander into retirement in shame. He and Floyd always avoided the dangerous fights. Cowards with undefeated records.

Paul Ross says...

Calzaghe vs Pavlik would be a great fight, i think the fight should be at super middle, one goes up and one comes down. I think Pavlik would edge a decision at this stage in there careers, but ya never know Joe might have another one in him, that is if he gets past Jones..!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very accurate comments from Joe. probably the most understated and best british boxer for years. Doubt if himself and Pavlik will ever get it on. He'll probably retire after Jones. Good comment about Hopkins, nice to see that big mouth silenced

Rich Field says...

No one is better than Calzaghe. He's P4P the number 1. Kelly is good but I agree that Kessler would certainly beat him and I think Lucian Bute would as well. Calzaghe to beat Jones in a 7th round TKO. Roy will look good for a while, but Joe will wear him down in the end and the fight will be stopped.
