Firstly i suppose we have to say well done to Froch. We have another British world Champion lets not forget that. However, i do think he is going to have to polish his defence if he is going to keep that belt. No disrespect to pascal but he doesnt have the power of someone like Kessler or even Taylor. And Froch got hit far too often. We should stop talking about a Calzaghe fight, it wont happen. Froch isnt in his league, but then again surely he'll get better as time porgresses

the reason why Jermain Taylor didn't fight Carl Froch is because Froch is a BUM! There would be no point of fighting him because he didn't have any belts or anything, but now that he's got WBC belt, I think Jermain Taylor would go for it, and when that happens he will finish off Carl Froch in 6 rounds!

Martin Batley says...

First 3 or 4 rounds Carl got sucked into fighting the fight that Pascal wanted. But from the 6th round onwards he showed his class with good combinations and the nagging jab that has got Carl Froch to where he is today. A fight with Kessler would be fantastic, but I do think that he needs to fight against some bigger names before he faces Mikkel. A fight against Taylor would be great although he does seem to be backing away from the challenge. I don't think a fight with Joe Calzaghe is worth it for either fighter, there is nothing to gain for Joe in fighting Carl Froch. Try and get Jermaine Taylor in for a bout and Carl will show, on the World stage, just how good he is.

Iv read a lot of the comments on here and im bit shocked. First and foremost we need to give props to Carl Froch. Say what you want about him but hes constantly delivered wen hes had to. Saturdays performance was top notch and hes probably in the top 3 in the division no doubt. He has serius punching power which shouldn't be underestimated. To compare him to joe calzaghe is a bit premature but Frochs punching power and Joe calzaghe punch resistnace would make it interesting. As for stating that joe calzaghe is top 5 pound for pound of all time thts just crazy. In my opinion hes world class but lets be honest he got outclassed by hopkins and u guys really think he would stand a chance against a prime roy jones? As far punching power goes he nearly got knocked out by byron mitchell and got floored by hopkins who really is a bloated up middleweight. I think froch has the power to knock him out. All in all froch is a world champion which is no mean feat so we shud give him the props he deserves.

Im a massive boxing fan and admire many top boxers, ive seen Froch a few times now and thought he is good. However on Saturday he showed far too many weak points and made too many errors for my liking! He is crazy to go after Joe Calzaghe. He hasnt fought anyone of sheer class yet and Joe would tear him up.Froch has a non existent defence, very little speed and is unknown whether he can take a good shot.An idiot could tell you Calzaghe would over-work him and throw too many punches but i also think Joe would ko him due to his poor defence and the fact Frocj is afraid to gain 7lbs and fight him at Light Heavyweight!!

Steve Jones says...

Great fight, but Carl needs to tighten that defence a million % if he wants to hold on to his title, he will now hopefully be fighting the best fighters in the world so still a lot of work to be done, Carl has got a great chin and is super fit, good luck to him..

Bomber Walker says...

Great fight, well done Carl. Pascal is a good fighter and Sam Johns you're an idiot if you actually believe that Pascal was 70/1 to win the fight. I personally think that Carl would do well against Joe. Joe no longer has a KO punch and his punch resistance isn't great and Carl has great power and a good chin. I can't remember the last time that Joe was in an exciting fight? Lets get the 'Battle of Britain' on!

Karl Froch has probably the worst defence in world boxing! He has never ever fought anybody world class. Fact, put him in with someone that can punch i.e Kessler/Pavlick and he will get knocked out. You watch ring masters like Calzaghe and they very rearly get hit clean throughout 12 rounds when fighting world class opponents. Froch has always bin hit clean by bums. Froch Forget about Calzaghe he is on a completely different level!

Froch fought well but he didnt win 118-110 as two judges claimed. That could have been a draw to be fair.

2009 will defintley belong to Carl Froch judging by last nights performance. I was impressed by his ability to go 12 rounds seemingly undettered by his opponents power; however, i do feel that people are getting a little carried away when they start talking about Froch and Calzaghe in the same breath. Calzaghe is undoubtedly one of the top 5 pound for pound boxers of ALL TIME. When you consider his record, his boxing attributes, the records that he has broken and the fact he has 100% record on both sides of the pond. Frochs' career begins from now. Could he cope with the pressure of boxing in Vegas or New York?? Last night his temprament was questioned when they looked at who broke the stare in their weigh in....it takes so much mental strenght aswell as physical strength and I seriously question if he will have it to the level needed when fighting in the US, Last night was a great performance, however, his defence did let him down. I feel that the punching power of Pavlik, Dawson and Kessler may test that chin of his a little more than Jean Pascal; however, that is not in any way a criticism of Froch - he took some hits last night and I was sat at ringside watching it so I could here the force of what was being taken. I think that he needs to loosen up his footwork somewhat and raise his guard, however, at 31 it is hard to teach someone at that age new tricks. People also need to remember that JC got knocked down in his last 2 fights at LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT and not this weight class. CF was hurt last night at some points of the fight so I think that he would find a similar scenario should he ever decide to step up. Calzaghe has held that belt for 11 years, Carl Froch for 2 days - he has a long, long way to go - over time I think people will have realised the gulf of difference between the two boxers - but I think for the next 2-3 years Carl Froch will be great for British boxing - but will not go down as a great......

Dave Appleby says...

Dan Asher....ssssssshhhh - Carl Froch is decent but he would have to prove he is worthy of a fight with Calzaghe - at which time it would be far too late - take a moment to think about exactly who Calzaghe has beaten and make a comparison ......... there isnt one. He should just concentrate on building his own reputation, and in addition - some people should be careful about talking down Jermaine Taylors ability - hes decent too!

Jon Walker says...

This is ridiculous. Everybody is slating Froch because he wants to fight the best. Calzaghe was slated for years for years for calling out collins, benn and Eubank. In six years time, when Froch has still got his wbc belt and is still undefeated everyone whose written on here will be praising him and calling him a legend. Froch might not beat Calzaghe, but the fact he wants to fight him is fair comment. Calzaghe is only getting recognition now, and has fought his fair share of bum. Froch could be great....given the chance.

Joe Simkins says...

No disrespect to Carl Froch, World Champion or not, if he gets in the ring with Joe Calzaghe, it will last 3 minutes, simple as. Calzaghe would have him floored and done with in the first round. All credit to Froch, he's the new world champion and good on him. But he has a serious case of "a hell of a lot of guts but a serious lack of brains" because A) Calzaghe would not fight him when he can fight some one like Pavlik and B) Froch would get his face pounded. I think Froch should stick to his career path and let Joe do what he wants. If Joe wanted an easy retirement fight, then this would be it in my opinion. But something tells me Joe Calzaghe is not like that. So thanks, but no thanks. "Cobra" vs "Bad Intentions", bring it! "Cobra" vs "Pride of Newport", wouldn't be worth paying for, because it would last 3 minutes.

Ukan Sodoff says...

Forget Calzaghe progress your career by chasing the belts and the belt holders. You and Joe are on different paths. Last night was wonderful. He got drawn in and didnt use his jab for 6 rounds, made it hard for himself but it made for an exciting fight, extremly impressed with Pascal, the mans nails. Taylors had his excuses for dodging Froch but now he holds a belt the excuses are gone. Bring on that fight.

Glen Deadman says...

bring on calzaghe! get a life, beat someone like taylor, lacy, kessler, hopkins, pavlik etc etc etc! carl there are a lot of fans who will get behind you if you drop the obsession with calzaghe. It will take 10 million to get Joe in the ring again and you cannot generate that sort of money yet! Congratulations on your win and obtaining the WBC belt. Let Joe go and concentrate on building your own legacy and the fans will follow. Good luck in the future and I look forward to see you headline Vegas one day soon.

froch fight calzaghe no chance of that happening,if froch keeps sticking his chin out like he did last night anyone whos half decent taylor, pavlik ,or kessler would knock him out

David Masdon says...

All credit to Froch for last nights at times wobbly performance against a guy who looked rank amateur and terrible footwork. Yes you can only beat whats put in front of you, but does anyone here honestly think Calzaghe would waste his time with this guy. No Challenger should get to walk into the ring last unless your a legend. I wanted to see Froch win as much as anyone, but lets not start thinking the man is on par with what we should be proud to have as the greatest Super Mid of all time. JC would have walked rings around the somewhat static Froch. In addition, the comment about knock out power, is a little silly, RJJ and B-HOP are masters of knockouts against top draw opposition. I hope to see Froch step in against Taylor, Kessler, Dawson but think he will encounter the same problem as Calzaghe had

Howard Taylor says...

It seems that Carl Froch still has his critics even when he has won the WBC world title against a highly credible challenger. Carl shown true grit against a guy who could, lets face it bang a bit himself and like Joe Calzaghe shows he has the chin to compete at this level. Just remember that Froch has never been on the canvas in both his amateur and pro careers. He is a much avoided fighter and has put up where his mouth has offered on many an occasion. It time to now offer the plaudits! Stand Up Carl Froch on one of the best 'edge of your seat' boxing displays from 2008. Well done son!!!

Sean Barnfield says...

i thought that a smarter boxer would have beaten Froch. its not that hard to parry a jab then follow in with a cross. don't get me wrong he is good, but calzaghe would ruin him, the only reason he wont fight him is because theres no money in it for him. if froch really wants to prove himself he needs to fight a big name. now he has a belt he may get one
