Sid has got it bang on to compare Taylor to other great sportsmen in history. I'm sick of hearing that Darts is not physical enough to be a considered nothing more than a pub game. Does that mean we should say golf is a retirement sport. It also amazes me to say that just because its an individual sport its not the same has running or boxing. Ed Moses or Marciano may have gone undefeated for so long, but they have been bettered by the changing standards in sport. Taylor is the difference.....and until someone can change that and take darts to an higher level you can't discount what a sporting legend he his. The bottom line is that Taylor is the most decorated person in British sports. Not only did he master darts, he took it to a level that no one can emulate. If the so called pub game was so easy then you would have everyone playing at the same level......I challenge anyone out there to play darts and say its easy. It takes just has much dedication and practice as any other sport on the planet. So appreciate the genius of Taylor and don't knock it. While England can't win at cricket and football we should be proud that the English flag is held up high by The Power.

I'm sorry but you seriously cannot put Phil Taylor in the same class as people like Pele, Bradman, Federer and Tiger Woods. Darts is not a physically demanding sport and the hard work and effort other sportsmen and women have to put in to reach their ridiculously high levels of performance and then maintain them is in a totally different world to what any darts player will do. Like you said he's not even properly pracitsing yet, the man has a talent yes, but darts is far too much of a closed skill "sport" for the man to rival any of the worlds top sports stars for the title of being the best of them all.

all the years that I have been seen darts, on the television.phil taylor, should have a KNIGHTHOOD. if he played football, he would have had one by now. or a popsinger. he has won the world championship more than any else in any sport.

So Phil Taylor should be considered one of the greatest sportsmen ever? What an astonishingly ridiculous statement. Firstly; Taylor is involved in an individual sport, and has lost dozens of times. Marciano didn't, Rickson Gracie hasn't lost and he's had over 400 fights!!!! Rustam-e-Zaman a Russian wrestler was unbeaten for 40 years. Take a look at Beryl Burton's record or Ed Moses's, and there are dozens more like them. Not only are these people's records far superior to anything Taylor has done, they did it in physical and technical sports, not a pub game. Taylor is probably the best darts player ever, in sporting terms, that just about puts him on a par with Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards.

Think Taylor will beat Lewis 8-2 , think Mardle will win 8-5, and Wade will beat Lewis 8-1, great column Sid!

Fair play Sid, you've had one or two of your arrer predictions spot-on of late. I have to agree with you this week too, except for Darth Maple, who'll have too much for Hawaii 501. In terms of punting, I think a double on Lewis to lose both of his matches is nailed on and I'd throw Barney in there to make it a tasty treble. Another great night guaranteed in grand old Aberdeen - it's the double top of the UK!!

What more can be said about Phil Taylor? He looked down and out during the first few weeks of the Premier League. Many of the pundits, Sid included thought he had made a big mistake changing his darts. But he has proved us all wrong! I look forward to seeing him first hand in Liverpool next week with a 10,000 crowd.

Taylor is the greatest Darts player to grace the ochie and i think he always will be, and Dave was right when he said in 2003, that he is the master, i dont think anyone will ever beat his record of 13 times world champion (well hopefully 14 after the 2009 championship) i went to ally pall y for the semi's and it just wasnt the same without phil!!!!!!!!!!!

With Taylors form just now he will blow away Lewis tonight, although maybe not a whitewash. Id go for 8-3 if I was a betting man. Hopefully Barny will turn Manley into Rubble tonight also 8-1!!

Taylor really is on a roll, so pleased for him. Barney's picking up so assuming they both make the play offs we are in for some quality darts. As for now, well the Power will thump Sickpot 8-0 ! Barney to beat 1-dart 8-3, Darth Maple to beat Hawaii 501 8-4 and the Machine to beat Sickpot 8-5 - And the Bull to have a deserved rest!! Anyone agree TJ looks like Mario ?!!! Up the tungsten !

i agree full with your match predictions Sid. I too see taylor winning well, Barney having too much for Manley, the inform Mardle to edge Part and The machine wade to edge out the not fully fit stokey lewis. Advice for any gamblers out there, have a sneaky bet on James Wade to score the most 180's. When on song he batters the treble 20 whereas Taylor is more renowend for his powerful 140 scoring. Crackin column Sid keep them coming ! !
