Phil Thompson believes Roy Hodgson is the right man to lead Liverpool back into a top four position.Back to story
I agree with alot of the comments as there is uncertainty at Liverpool. I watch alot of football when not seeing my beloved QPR and I was at Birmingham when Benitez took off Torres and saw the reaction of joy from the blues and groans of despair from the Liverpool fans. I respect Liverpool fans loyalty to their previous managers and hope it lasts asI suspect it may take one or more steps back to step forward. Stick with Roy for a few years and change the ownership issue and Liverpool will return as a force. Fraternally Tom

According to the situation no one is better then roy. He is the perfect choice. Hopefully he will give some positive result. Its better to see rafa goes, if he stayes two more season at anfield he will destroy the club. Thanks him for signing torres and kuyt during his perod and win CL 2005. Roy will made some good signing for the club and good use of money, not like rafa who totally wasted money like a rubbish. I like to see roy sell useless players from the club like mash? Hopefully he let the player to play their natural game in their favorite position and play with 4-3-3 formation at home and 4-4-2 formation at away. Come on roy lets fell proud for the club and bring honour.we all are with you, cause we never walk alone. Rupak from Bangladesh.(With LFC 4 ever)

Let''s face it, with the poor season liverpool had last season anyone who came in would be hailed as The messiah. Is hodgson the right man for the job? Who cares the problem Liverpool has are their owners. Untill that is resolved nothing will change unfortunatley Liverpool will finish outside of the top four again this comming season

i have a feeling this is the manager to get us back on track, his pedigree speaks for itself ,if any manager can motivate a team he is the 1 and all us liverpool supporters should give him our full backing and get behind our team ,good luck Roy YNWA

Mr Thompson Mr Roy Hodgson does not seem to stay at a club more than four years hope you don¿t have a five year plan ? ?
Posted 08:08 29th July 2010
You know what, he wasn''t my first choice, but since Roy has been Liverpool Manager, he has come across as totally professional, believable and above all else, talks sense. My only reservation is that we could have done with recruiting Roy 5 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shankly would be proud, and I hope Roy can build a legacy over the next few years to pass on his expertise to his successor after the club is sold to new investors. I think over the short period he has been in charge he has already proved himself to be astute. I really hope he wins some silverware over the next few years to back up his professionalism. I really hope you get the budget to mold the future LFC success Roy, and you will be revered in our history. YNWA.

Having read all these responses all i can say is that at last for the 1st time in nearly 20 years we have a LIVERPOOL Manager! I wasn''t convinced when they got him but now we will be the surprise package next season and stop Man U overhalling our unbeaten record of 18 titles. Putting my neck out Roy will wihn us the ultimate prize!!!!!! Whether or not Mascherano is with us or not--Do we really need him? No-.one is bigger than Liverpool Football Club.

Roy hodgeson is the best English manager at the minute and I wish him all the best with Liverpool I hope they can get back to what they were 20 years ago and play good football I think Roy hodgeson is the man to get them back !!!

i am extremely happy with the appointment of Roy hodgson because he actually has a clue about what he wamts with his team unlike benitez. remember v birmingham when they were drawing, he took torres off just before the end, UNBELIEVABLE, but hodgeson is a good manager and a person which the players can relate to and he has brought in Joe Cole which was a very good signing and had talks with Gerrard and he is certain to stay so all good there, the only thing to do now is to convince Torres and mascherano that they belong at anfield. I know that this is a big jump, but i think Liverpool will win the league, don''t laff but i belive we have abetter squad than manchester united, thier only good player is rooney and he is no in good form, not scared of them AT ALL

Roy is the right man for the job, all we need kim to do is to get us back were we should be in the next 5 to 6 years
Posted 12:52 26th July 2010
Give Roy a chance personally speaking as a liverpool fan for over 30 years he is just what Liverpool need right now ...Stability ....and hopefully keeping things behind closed doors ...not on the back pages of newspapers...the why it used to be.

Ive just watch the post match interview with Roy Hodgson after the Kasierslauten game. I just want too add that it is such a breath of fresh air to hear a liverpool manager being honest, concise and optomistic. I am used to the same scripted answers that was Benitez. I wish him, the new players and the academy players all the best for the upcoming season, I am without doubt, that we the fans, will be behind them all the way. YNWA

I think Hodgson is a very good choice. Many ''fans'' demand a big name purely for the lustre of having a big name, but is someone like Rijkaard who has managed in Spain & Turkey, and who has never even played in England, really going to arrive in the Premiership and do a better job right off the bat than a guy who knows the club and the league like the back of his hand? Liverpool do not have big money for a manager nor for players, and here they have a manager with international experience, a guy who has proved he can operate on a limited budget, and a guy who is of good standing and is well-respected in the game - and they have not had to break the bank in doing so. It''s a very shrewd move. And his reign has started brilliantly, getting £5.5m for Benayoun then getting Cole for nothing!! Hodgson will have Liverpool back in the top four next year. There was no better candidate.

every1 needs to calm down give roy a chance and our club end of the day every1 is putting us down as we finished 7th so what there wasn't actually that many points between us and the 4th place

Liverpool will win or come very close to winning the pl this coming season. Firstly i believe we already have the squad to compete but Benetez never organised them correctly. The FA cup will be ours also. Honest!!
Posted 21:23 20th July 2010
you all thought benitez was the right man, you all thought houillier was the right man, now hodgsons the right man, why don't you liverpool fans actually look and realise roy is not the right man, no money and no talent, mid table obscurity for you.
Posted 20:46 20th July 2010
I think Roy is a great appointment......He will steady the ship and get the best out of all the players. To secure the likes of Joe Cole shows he can attract top players. I think Joe Cole is just the sort of creative player we have been missing and will prove to be a great signing

Good eye for a signing? Hodgson has bought some complete dross throughout his managerial career. Hangelaand is often cited as his ability to pick gems from Scandanavia, but Hodgson coached him at Viking. Kevin Davies for £7.5 mil, (£17 mil in today's money). Christian Dailey - £5.35m (£13m) Nathan Blake - £4.25m (£10.4m) Callum Davidson - £1.75m (£6m) from his time at Blackburn More recently Andy Johnson - £10.5m Andreason - £2m Stoor - £2m Nevland - £2m He's made a few good signings for Fulham, don't get me wrong, but he's not this European wheeling dealing genius which has been painted in certain areas of the press.

I think Roy is good for the team and I'm glad we have signed Joe Cole, I'm buzzing about it, I think its just what the team need. If things go wrong don't jump on the band wagon. We could do with a new striker aswell. I have been a fan for 20 years and its a nice birthday present for me. Roll on new season.
