He could be a very good appointment... I assume that as he is multi-lingual that he can speak spanish, so that will be very handy for the likes of Reina and Torres... but can he talk scouse? lol Seriously though, the appointment has a lot of potential, but I'll judge him initially on his pre-season transfer dealings, i.e. who of our deadwood he manages to offload (Voronin etc) and more importantly, the kinds of names he brings in. I have read today that he's interested in Scharner? Well, as a squad player maybe as he's on a free, anything more... I DONT THINK SO. Other than that I've heard maybe Figeroa? DO ME A FAVOUR! Whilst all this may be paper talk, I'd like to see some 1ST TEAM PLAYERS! And on that basis I'll hold my judgement until we see actual movement.

why are the vast majority so negative about Hodgsons appointment, i have been a liverpool fan for thirty five years & have seen the club appoint a few managers some good, some not so good, but at the end of the day its the club we have to get behind not individuals. Roy has the pedigree of a good club manager and is a good man manager & will bring the best out of our star player and will nurture our young talent .dont be so defeatist, back the man back the team, or you are already doing every other teams work for them.

Im made up. He gets teams punching above their weight and always has done and thats exactly what we need at the moment with city spending so much. Sum fellow liverpool "fans" annoy me, what happened to r tried and tested tradition of supporting the manager until he gives u a reason not to

will people stop mentioning leeds....yes we had a bad time, and yes we struggled......but were going back to where we belojng, and in a few seasons will be not criticizing my team.......the only team in egland everyone criticizes in leeds and it does my head in, yeah, we had a bad time......BUT were on our way back so watch out all you doubters......and yes leeds rub people the wrong way, we never said we did it sexy.....

What else could we hope for? To finish 4th!!! The greatest club in England hit rock bottom!! Its really sad to watch the downfall of such a great club..its all about money today and the US duo couldnt make it any worse..get rid of them now and get some hope for the club..good luck to Roy but what he needs is something more than that...YNWA

I think Roy could be a really good appointment. I like the way he goes about his job. He has lots of experience from all over Europe and i also like the low key ways he seems a humble man .His record with Fulham was as good as Chelsea winning the league. Some Liverpool fans may want a big name but big names don't always work out look at Fabio Capello for england and 6 million a year wages too . Come on Roy do us proud

I think Roy could be a good appointment. I didn't believe in the appointment originally but after hearing his views & that he is already looking to try bring in a big player like Joe Cole it does sound promising. At least he is passionate about his football club, with Rafa he didn't show any emotion wether we were losing or thrashing the team. Come on Roy do us proud

what makes me laff is the liverpool fans below who are saying were going to finish 11th. what the hell its supporters like you that bring the team down. Where a top 4 side everyone knows it and just because we have one bad season dont mean were rubbish. Were Liverpool not Leeds. Get some good english talent down the sides get a good holding player to sit up front with torres and let the season go ahead. And for everyone who thinks gerrard and torres are gunna leave they have way to much respect for liverpool to leave is in the state we are in all good footballers love a challage and now theve got one, so insted of getting the team down get behind and give them support which they need to get back in the top 4

I still cant make up my mind. Everytime i start to get hope and think he could do it this season some realist comes in with facts and stats and smashing that hope to pieces lol. I hope he does really well, i hope with the money we get from benayoun and maybe mascherano but hopefully not, we can get a quality, holding, CDM which is rare atm because everybody wants to score and be a hero. also if roy could convince Joe Cole to move away from london and get him on a free signing in place of benayoun that would be brilliant. Lets just hope this season is better than last season and ryan babel gets some gameplay....

Sorry people but liverpool have made a very cautious choice they hired a english manager and knowing the way things are going with uefa and the premier league they think bringing in roy will draw english players to the club. No offence roy but what have you won noting at all fair enough you got to a final last year but thats it. Sorry but kevin keegan would of being a better choice !!

get a grip people all those negative comments about the reds not going to be up there this season. the team is not that different from when we finished second. now rafa has gone the players might get to play in there original positions instead of strikers on the wing etc etc etc . its just a confidence issue with most of the team and roy seems to have done alright with fulham and the confidence of that team so roy has got my support. a few people will be eating the words by the end of the season. So lets F@#*n have it come on the reds. PS atleast after the game interviews will be more interesting....... Dave the red over in nz

I can't believe what I was reading from Matthew Edwards....You have the best English manager around and you want him to be sacked before he's even started! Some fan you are?
Posted 21:13 5th July 2010
Good luck Roy. Some Liverpool fans are deluded, the vast fortunes are not in place. And its about time an Englishman was given a chance, so come on Roy. People like M edwards who commented, you hope he fails, coz you want a foreign named manger, last 2 worked well didn't they. I bet M Edwards cried when England went out, if you support a club that doesn't produce young English players and don't play English players, well your revoke the right to support England. You can burn your England and bull dog tattoo's off. You don't deserve them on you. Come on Roy and come on Englan

Mr. Hodgson used to coach my hometown team Neuchatel Xamax as well as the Swiss team and he did wonders with what he had. I used to play and be friends with his son Chris and got to meet him a few times. He is a top class gentleman. A great motivator too. I am absolutely convinced he will do wonders with Liverpool. Today, he is the best choice LFC could have made! I hope he will bring the club back where it belongs.

I can¿t believe what I am reading, I think sky must be stopping all the negative comments about Roy because at best he is a journeyman, he might have managed inter-Milan but he won nothing with them, his first season he only finished one place better off than the previous manager (6th) and the next season finished 3rd (ok but he did not win it and they did not think it was good enough as he left straight after that) , not good enough for LFC, LFC deserves the biggest and best, not a yes man who managed to win nothing in 30 years of football, well done Roy!!!! I just hope we get brought out soon and they sack him straight away. I am fully behind the team but what a joke of a manager, I am sure the rest of the top 10 are laughing as I think we might finish 11 if we are lucky!!!! the first 5 games could be a disaster, arsenal, man city and man u, if we lose all of those then I hope he walks straight away!!!! always a red till I die but get rid of the yanks and Roy!!!!!!!!!!!YNWA

Good day as a fan of Liverpool club since in the 1970 it was allways my favourite team, and unlucky not to meet the Liverpool players.Tell me how can i join a Liverpool fan club as i have bought myself a Lverpool Jersey with Gerrad name and number.I also think bring in an English coach will do wonders for the club thank you and all the best for this season.
Posted 11:57 5th July 2010
i just think its the best you could of hoped for at this point in your clubs history. hodge is a good manager but not great and that pretty much sums liverpool up at the moment. a great history backs you up but i cant see liverpool being a force in the premiership for maybe another 5+ years tbh . the club made some amazingly poor choices and yopur paying for them now.

You know what? I have a really good feeling about this.
Posted 04:46 5th July 2010
Finishing in the top four doesn't seem realistic to me, there are definitley five teams better than us and important players will leave. Hate to be realistic but the target should be fifth or sixth.
