Manager got it wrong big time, Why play 4-4-2 with a striker who cant score, may as well played one up front, what was the point in playing cole for the 90 minutes in the friendly and then not use him tonight, when I saw the team I couldn't believe it, what a joke

We'll firstly I'm glad none of the previous posters (LFC fans apart) support my club. Knee-jerkers, who sound like they are part of the media hyperbole in the build up to England matches. Yet, like the press after a result like that the so-called fans have their knives out. The USA are no mugs, and many English fans expected a walk in the park. Pull your heads in!!

USA... USA...USA... England may have the better quality players but they are not a TEAM... USA has a team mentality the English have yet to show... Got a gift from Greene but he made a great stop on Josie in 2nd half to prevent further English embarrassment. Dont be so sad... USA is better than people give them credit for, most of our players are in EPL, La Liga or the Seria A... Dont forget we beat Spain and almost topped Brazil in the final last summer... group depends on the game tomorrow now... Come on boys, USA all the way and Arsenal to win the league next year. RVP = Golden Boot

My England team review: Goalkeeper: GREEN - Wow even Calamity James would've been proud of that one! Full Backs: Both got forward well, only plus point from the game. Centre Backs: Need to learn how to bring the ball out of defence, because "hoofing" the ball is not going to win us anything. Wingers: We never created enough space for LENNON to take on the full back one-on-one. He needs to learn that when he's in a good shooting position he need to actually shoot. MILNER didn't look like he was up with the pace of the game, whether he was ill or not. WRIGHT-PHILLIPS had one chance, but he is too right footed to play on the left. Centre Midfield: GERRARD took his goal well, but was asked to defend far too much. LAMPARD never got forward, can't track back. Still can't play with Gerrard. Forwards: ROONEY never got into the game until late, had to drop deep to get the ball & was continually fouled when he did. HESKEY couldn't trap a bag of sand, must have a head like a fifty pence piece the way his headers were going anywhere but to his colleagues. He never looks like scoring. Only redeeming point was the pass for Gerrard's goal. CROUCH lead the line well for the few minutes he was given. He looks like a natural forward that wants to get into positions to score goals. Others: Capello please give HART a chance, he is the only England keeper that didn't spend most of the season picking the ball out of the net. JOE COLE needs a chance to shine, he is the only creative midfielder we have, put him on the left. BARRY/CARRICK need to come in & protect the back four, Barry is the more natural defendsive player, but Carrick links the play better, one has to play!

Look, the fact of the matter is that yes, every keeper can make an error, but what made Rob Green's so much worse this evening was just how bad his tecnique was in trying to save it. Being a keeper myself, i know that dealing with a shot like Dempsey's requires you to simply get your body straight in line with the ball, fully behind it, and let the ball roll up your hands and into your arms. It was almost like Green knelt down and then tried to catch it with his palms. I've made plenty of errors over the years so I don't like to criticise him cause i know how bad he must feel right now, but as a professional keeper he must surely know that his technique was awful, and the mistake came as a result of such awful technique and NOT basic human error. I noticed he had bad technique with a similar effort earlier in the game too. This is what makes me think Green is a bad keeper and HAS to be dropped for James/Hart next game.

Green should not wear the shirt in this tournament again,he looked like he lacked confidence from the start. Even though the americans were reduced to shooting from long range he never gave the team any confidence. Wrong choice Capello go with the young Hart,Green simply gave the chance for two points away after a good early goal he gave the americans their confidence back. Once you knock the ball into your own net the opposition might as well shoot from their own end he might let it in.

If it wasn't for rob greens's save we'd have lost. Lampard, so many errant passes, wright phillips a joke, King not good enough for sunday league football. Every english player made numerous mistakes. Green is our best keeper by far and will play the rest of the tournament.

Peter Babbage (Manchester City fan) says...

Very poor performance even apart from the goal. All the hype about winning it is laughable when we have players like Carragher, King (never fit), SWP and Heskey in the team. Rooney, lampard were almost anonymous. I also thought USA played pretty well and a point was the minimum they deserved.

England were awful all over the pitch ,be in no doubt if thats the best they can do there in trouble.two centre halfs wil be destroyed by any desent attack .midfield was 40 yards awa from the ball all night .England are lucky as usual with the yeams the got. U.S.A . are just hard grafters .ah well cant wait for the pens

Let's not get carried away it was only the first game probably with the hardest opponents in our group, England always draw & start slowly in their first game. We'll go through with seven points but it'll be down to our strikers,we need GOALS. As for green he has the hardest position on the pitch no-one to hide behind if he makes a mistake so LAY OFF. What about the defenders who should've closed the shot down?

1966 drew first game with Uraguay, went on to win the worldcup ... 1990 drew the first game, got to the semi's. So let's hope in the next to game's we can get a couple of games and finish top. I dont think the performance was that bad, better than the last 2 friendly's, we kept the ball better, Gerrard proved he needs to play in the center and hope he improves along with Lampard, also rooney need's to get more involved, too quiet for my liking, better in the 2nd half though. Shocked Joe cole didnt start or come on instead of wright-phillips (who should of done better with his chance on goal) and Heskey done well holding the ball up but proved that he cant find the back of the net and usually found wondering offisde a couple of times! THOUGH THREW GOOD AND BAD I BELIEVE IN ENGLAND AND 100% BEHIND THEM!!!! not like some negative people on here!

I have got to say that Green's misstake was terrible! However how many times have we seen English keepers do misstakes like that??? I think the reason why england is one of the most hated nations in football you find in some of these comments! you never seem to be able to be proud of what you achieve... Stand up for your country, support the team in good and bad and remember everyone can make a misstake!! You always seem to try to find scapegoats and slag your national players for individual misstakes! Also your (media and supporters) expectations are always too high and I think that puts too much pressure on the players....

Rhys Brindle (Blackburn Rovers fan) says...

A poor starting line-up. Why have Milner on the left when we could have had Joe Cole linking up with his Chelsea team mate down the left flank?! Then SWP on as a sub? What? Johnson didn't really impress either, most of his crosses missed the targets. A dismal performance and one that could have been prevented if Green hadn't made that terrible mistake. A 1-0 lead and no mistake would have given us the confidence to move on into the second half with our heads in the right place and perhaps the rest of the comp too.

Keep the faith. Positives - Stevie Gerrard seemed to be inspired in the same way Beckham was as captain. Only a howler cost us the points. No other team has sent the competition alight yet.

I have seen it already. We will never be able to win this cup. Besides Gerrard, Lampard, Terry and big Wayne the rest of our players is not worldclass. Thanks to all the foreigners that all Premier League clubs bring in our talents don't develop at all.

Dire performance by England . Worldbeaters, no way. It only took commentators 11 second to mention 1966. Come on Algeria.put them out their misery.

Matthias Brown (Ipswich Town fan) says...

Well what can you say about that really. A very cautious display by England on the whole. It looks like some England players are a afraid to take responsibility when in shooting positions, this you can blame the media for. All in all not the worst start in the world though not the best either, mare to come from all departments I would say. Bad mistake by Green. Very complacent by himself, Dempsey is no mug though world beater either. All in all I would give Englang no more than 6.5 for there performance with Heskey and Gerrard as our top men. Ohh... Has anybody seen the Lampard of Chelsea anywhere in London as he's not in South Africa at the moment. Next game please...
