Stuart Barnes believes England's squad for the tour of South Africa has the right mix of experience and youth.Back to story
There aren't any real alternatives to Monye and Strettle on the wing so England will just have to make do. I personally think Monye is underrated and was unlucky to be overlooked by Martin Johnson. He definitely isn't an international full back but as a specialist winger there is no substitute for pace and his cover defence is very strong. Looking forward to seeing Ben Morgan go up against Pierre Spies. The south african man is a genetic freak but has never performed well at international level and morgan has all the skills and attributes of his south african counterpart despite not being in as good physical condition. As an Exeter Chiefs fan, I think Tom Johnson is lucky two other Toms who play 6 are injured otherwise he wouldn't be on the plane. All in all should be a great tour

England have a huge advantage in freshness. The Stormers vs Bulls, probably of critical importance to both teams, is 1 week before the 1st test. Anyway hopefully Meyer also goes with a bit of awesome young talent that has come to the fore in Super 15, great pity about Goosen. GO THE BOKKE !!!

Where's Jonny May?

I agree with the majority of the selections but I'm disappointed with the lack of a specialist 7 again. Having been to Sale a few times recently why no Seymour and also Armitage looks to be playing well in France. If you look at what were up against in SA i.e Brussouw I think we've missed a trick. Also, what about a few of the Gloucester young guns like Trinder or May. May especially could have been a devastating on the hard grounds. All in all ok though I'd be happy with a 2-1 result.
