Dereck Chisora is open to meeting Dillian Whyte in December despite "quiet" negotiations, his promoter Kalle Sauerland confirmed.
The domestic heavyweight pair almost came to blows at Whyte's unveiling with Matchroom, when Chisora's surprise appearance prompted security to intervene.
Whyte (17-1 KO14), who fights Dave Allen in Leeds on Saturday live on Sky Sports, suggested Chisora (31-6 KO17) only chimed in when "cameras were there" but negotiations to settle the disagreement properly have now fallen by the wayside.
"Unfortunately it's all gone a bit quiet," Sauerland exclusively told Sky Sports. "We're there, though. We definitely want to do it. December would be great. I think Dell would get out in September, he's ticking along, and he'd love to do it.
"I spoke to [Whyte's promoter] Eddie Hearn and we have a basic understanding of how the deal would work. But it seems to have gone quiet from the Dillian Whyte side - I'm not baiting anyone, if it happens next year that's absolutely fine."
Chisora's most recent outing was a failed attempt to capture the European title against Kubrat Pulev in May while Whyte was last seen easing past Ivica Bacurin as he recovered from shoulder surgery.
Sauerland believes that Whyte would be taking an untimely risk by facing the more experienced Chisora.
"I've always said I don't think it's the right time for Dillian to take a Chisora fight," Sauerland said. "I think Dillian is a great talent, a great prospect, and he gave Anthony Joshua problems. Let's not look past that.
"Dillian can have a really successful career but he's certainly been rushed on a few things."
Asked who could be next for Chisora, Sauerland revealed the opportunity to gain revenge for a 2011 split decision defeat.
"We're also speaking to Robert Helenius at the moment," Sauerland added. "That was a terrible decision at the time and it's a fight that Dell would love to do to avenge that defeat, so there's options out there."
