Shannon Briggs vowed to "smash" Fres Oquendo in next month's WBA title fight as he attempts to regain a world heavyweight belt at the age of 45.
The American veteran lived up to his outrageous image at the press conference for his upcoming clash against Oquendo, with the vacant WBA 'regular' title at stake in Florida on June 3.
Briggs, who last held the WBO belt almost 10 years ago, has promised to join Anthony Joshua as a heavyweight champion in the top division by inflicting a crushing defeat on his Puerto Rican opponent.
"We're here now. We got the shot," said Briggs. "I look forward to becoming a champion for a third time. I'm fighting a very good fighter in Fres Oquendo. He's a seasoned guy, but he's out of his league. This isn't his time.
"I've heard things that he's said about me, that it might be an easy fight. But he has no idea how motivated and how focused I am right now. I just can't wait for the bell to ring so that the people can look up and see me smash him.
"I'm coming out in the first round and I'm gunning for you. As soon as the bell rings, I'm coming to take your head off."
The Brooklyn-born fighter has been preparing with Stacey McKinley, one of Mike Tyson's old trainers, and former IBF champion Chris Byrd is also assisting Briggs in his training camp.
"It's scary when Shannon Briggs gets in front of you," said Byrd. "The power, speed and athleticism is crazy. I think Shannon Briggs is the best heavyweight in the world right now."
Retired heavyweight great Evander Holyfield was also in attendance and insisted he was keen to see whether Briggs or the 44-year-old Oquendo will become the oldest ever title holder in the top division.
