England all-rounder Chris Woakes is one of three Warwickshire players to sign contract extensions at Edgbaston.

Birmingham-born Woakes, who has been a Warwickshire player throughout his career and since age-group cricket as an U10, will be staying with them until at least the end of 2019.

Former Test wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose and England Lions seamer Chris Wright have also agreed new deals, until the end of 2018.

Warwickshire director of cricket Dougie Brown is delighted all three will be staying at the club, who began the new season with a hard-earned Division One draw away to Hampshire.

He said: "Securing the futures of Chris, Tim and Chris is a great boost to the team as we look to build on a strong performance in our first match of the Specsavers County Championship.

"Woakesy is a proud Bear and has been one of the leading all-rounders in the country for several years. We're very fortunate to have him leading the attack in this early part of the season."

Woakes, 27, featured twice for England during their last Test series - which ended in victory over South Africa in January - and will be among those pushing for a place when the new international season gets under way against Sri Lanka next month.
