West Indies captain Darren Sammy says there is no pressure on the team's star player Chris Gayle going into Friday's must-win clash against South Africa.

The West Indies have won their opening two fixtures in group one against England and Sri Lanka, romping to victory by seven wickets with ten balls remaining against the latter on Sunday.

West Indies' star player Gayle - who has been passed fit to play after suffering a slight hamstring strain against Sri Lanka - wasn't needed to bat on Sunday victory as Andre Fletcher finished with 84 not out.

The Grenada-born batsman is one of a crop of inexperienced players to be tested in international cricket and Sammy suggested that the performance has eased the expectations on star man Gayle.

"Yes, Chris is our biggest player, but he has no pressure on him to perform," Sammy said.

"Obviously we would want him to lead from the front in this tournament, but we as a group, we know what we have and as Fletcher showed, he could win matches. Yes, we know we have 15 match-winners in the dressing room."

The West Indies captain described Friday's clash with South Africa at the Vidarbha Cricket Stadium in Nagpur as a fixture they must win.

"If we win this game we definitely qualify for the semis, so it's the position, it's a game, it's a must-win game tomorrow to us.

"We have six steps to the cup, we have taken two, tomorrow is one more step towards our goal and that step is South Africa.

"We respect them, we plan against them but, we as a group we focus on what we can do and go out there and execute and do it well," he added.

Batsman AB de Villiers shone for South Africa as they scrapped to victory against Afghanistan. De Villiers impressed with the 64 runs he hit but Sammy said the West Indies have plans for him and have their own dangerous personnel.

"A T20 match is played on the day," he said. "Every innings starts fresh, so we have our plans for him [De Villiers] and we also have very dangerous guys in our team.

"In the end, we have to score just one more run than they score, and then we come out victorious.

"I hope it's an exciting match, games with the West Indies normally tend to be exciting, so hopefully we will entertain like we have been doing since the inception of the T20 cricket.

"And I hope we do it well and the next day we'll be celebrating a place in the semi-finals."
