Nathan Redmond says Pep Guardiola was complimenting and not offending him during the Manchester City manager's fiery outburst towards the Southampton striker.

The pair were captured on camera exchanging words in a heated exchange with Guardiola gesturing wildly in Redmond's face at the end of Manchester City's dramatic 2-1 win over the Saints on Wednesday.

Despite later insisting he was telling the forward how good a player he was, a report claimed the Spaniard was offensive towards Redmond - but the 23-year-old insists that was not the case.

Taking to Twitter, Redmond wrote: "Yes he was very passionate, intense and aggressive but he was only very complimentary and positive to me.

Following the full time whistle, Pep Guardiola appeared to have a big rant against Nathan Redmond, seemingly shouting in the winger's face

"He commented on my qualities as a young English player and how he wanted me to attack his team more during the game in a similar way to last season.

"I told him I was doing what my manager had asked me to do in the game.

Raheem Sterling scored a sensational 96th-minute winner to send his side eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, setting a new club record of 12 Premier League wins in a row.

Meanwhile Southampton sit 11th in the table with three defeats and one win from their last four games.
