Chris Ramsey admits he was flattered by comments from QPR vice-chairman Tony Fernandes who claimed he would be "nuts" to replace his head coach if he kept them in the Premier League.

Ramsey was given the job at Loftus Road until the end of the season after Harry Redknapp's resignation and Fernandes suggested on Wednesday that the decision could be made more permanent.

"I don't really read much in the media when you're in this situation, because you get good and bad," said Ramsey. "But what you don't want to do is worry about what people say.

I do have a long way to go to be the dream manager. I'm really just focusing on the next few games, trying to get those wins to keep us up.

"I think my family and friends read it more than me. What he said was a nice statement and obviously you're in a situation where you have the chance for a very prestigious job, for a long time, if things work out the way I want them to go.

"Obviously if it's me, or somebody else, I just want what's best for the club to make sure they do have the right man here. It may not be me. If it is me? I'll be very pleased.

'Delighted'

"I do have a long way to go to be the dream manager. I'm really just focusing on the next few games, trying to get those wins to keep us up."

But Ramsey revealed he would be delighted if Fernandes and the QPR board extended his contract beyond the end of the season if he keeps the club in the top-flight.

"We've had a few discussions over the last week or so, he hasn't said that directly to me, he's insinuated it," he added.

"We would all like us to stay up and have that decision then to bring someone else in or to keep me here. I want to try and give him that difficult decision."

Ramsey was speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to face relegation rivals Hull where top scorer Charlie Austin is in line to return after sitting out the first Premier League away win of the season at Sunderland with a foot injury.

Chile right-back Mauricio Isla (knee) has picked up a problem and will not feature at the KC Stadium while the game is likely to come too soon for Brazilian midfielder Sandro after his medial ligament knee injury.

Dutch midfielder Leroy Fer and Irish defender Richard Dunne (both knee) are struggling to feature again this season while full-back Nedum Onuoha has a hamstring injury and is out for about a month.
