Swansea beat United by the same scoreline at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, meaning the Swans have now beaten United twice during the same campaign for the first time in their history.

Ki scored the opener in Swansea’s win last August and the midfielder revealed manager Garry Monk had issued a rallying cry to his players ahead of Saturday’s game at the Liberty Stadium to write their name in the club’s folklore by sealing a historic double against United.

“Today’s game was massive for us after we lost against West Brom last week,” Ki told Sky Sports News HQ.

“Against Manchester United we have now won twice in a year so it is a very special day. The gaffer said before the game let’s make history by winning against Manchester United.

“He motivated all the players before the game. To be fair a lot of people maybe didn’t expect us to win but we just really focussed on the game and gave everything during the game and that’s why we deserved to win this game.

“I have scored two goals against Manchester United this season. This is a great memory for myself. I have always tried to help the team and I just want to score my goals this season.”
