Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has refused to be drawn on reports that Mario Gotze is a summer transfer target for the club.
Sky sources understand Liverpool are keen to sign Gotze, who has struggled to nail down a place in Bayern Munich's first team this season.
If they were successful, Gotze would become Liverpool's third major signing following the capture of defender Joel Matip from Schalke and midfielder Marko Grujic from Red Star Belgrade - both will move to Anfield in July.
Gotze was a key member of Klopp's Borussia Dortmund side that won two Bundesliga titles and reached the Champions League final - but Klopp laughed off any talk of a reunion.
"It shouldn't surprise you that we don't talk about any names," he said. "We can talk about [Joel] Matip and [Marko] Grujic, because these are fixed deals.
"The problem is, you don't know these players- ah wait, you know Matip!
"Seriously, I never comment on any rumours. I´m happy for Mario that he played such a good game [for Germany v Italy] after being out for a long time with an injury. In addition to that, there is nothing more to say."
