Olivier Giroud hopeful Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are next to agree Arsenal extensions

Olivier Giroud admits he hopes Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are the next Arsenal players to agree contract extensions.

The Frenchman was one of three Gunners players to sign a long-term deal on Thursday, alongside Francis Coquelin and Laurent Koscielny.

Fresh from signing his own extension, Giroud said he is keen for Ozil and Sanchez - who each have 18 months remaining on their current Arsenal contracts - to follow suit and commit their futures to the club.

"Obviously we hope they're going to do the same but it’s up to the player," Giroud told Sky Sports News HQ. "I really wanted to sign another contract and I don't know what they want, but hopefully they will do it soon."

Giroud, 30, has returned to the Gunners' starting line-up in recent weeks, scoring in his last four outings. It marks a swift change in fortune for the France international, who had primarily been used as a substitute upon returning to the squad from injury.

Despite his slow start to the campaign, Giroud said he never contemplated leaving the club and always intended to sign a new deal.

"It's been a few months that we've been talking about it; I'm happy it's happened. I feel good in this Arsenal family and I want to win some more trophies.

"We needed to wait a little bit. We said we'd see after the Euros and then I had my injuries but it's nice that's I've signed it.

"I needed to understand why I didn't play and it was clear between us [Giroud and Wenger]. I'd been injured, I came back a bit late from the Euros and the team did well.

"I was waiting for my time but when you don't play you need to keep the faith, keep working hard and that's what I've done.

"I'll always try to give my best - that's my motto - and when I came back, I tried to give everything for the team."

Arsene Wenger has denied that Mesut Ozil's future depends on whether he stays at Arsenal

Arsenal, who are eight points behind league leaders Chelsea, face struggling Swansea on Saturday and Giroud insists the club will battle hard to win their first title since 2004.

"The Premier League is always a big fight until the end," Giroud continued. "We can see there are six teams fighting for the title.

"Chelsea has a bit of an advantage but we are not going to give up, trust us. There are plenty of games to play and we want to win every game - starting with Swansea.

"They will want to bounce back and it's always hard to play in their stadium, even more so because they're not in a good position.

"In my opinion we need to start better as a team. Scoring late shows we have a strong mental response and I try to keep the faith until the end.

"Even if I miss a chance, I believe I'll have another to score the winner. We need to keep our nerve, hopefully start better and get back to a strong defensive shape.”
