Tottenham's Christian Eriksen could be Real Madrid target this summer

Spanish football expert Graham Hunter thinks signing Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen will be "one of Real Madrid's highest priorities this summer".

The 26-year-old Eriksen is having another superb season for Tottenham - but his contract only has 18 months to run.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino remains optimistic that Eriksen will sign a contract extension, saying: "I hope he will commit to the club for the long term."

But Hunter told the the Transfer Talk podcast that he thinks Tottenham may find it hard to hold onto Eriksen this summer.

"There is no question whatsoever that Real Madrid see Christian Eriksen as the perfect signing," said Hunter.

"They would like to add him to their squad this summer.

"I think everybody respects the way that (Tottenham chairman) Daniel Levy conducts his transfer negotiations, but the power is always with the player and the buying club when a contract is running down in the way that Eriksen's contract is at Tottenham.

"I don't see too many indications from him that he is desperate to renew and, while I do believe in Tottenham's financial power, to be able to persuade him to stay, Daniel Levy's regime is not one that is quick to say 'don't worry, we will outpay everyone else, because we must absolutely retain you'.

"Real Madrid wish to add Eriksen, albeit he is not an identical player to (Real's Ballon d'Or winner) Luka Modric but there are patent similarities and, if Modric has his way, I think he will move to Inter Milan this summer.

"It is absolutely crystal clear that one of Real Madrid's highest priorities this summer will be to try and sign Christian Eriksen."
