Getafe favourites to beat Wigan to striker

Paraguay international striker Nelson Valdez is set to shun a move to Wigan Athletic with the Hercules attacker admitting he would prefer to stay in Spain. Wigan have reportedly matched a €4million bid for Valdez from La Liga side Getafe but the 27-year-old insists he wants to stay put in Spain, giving Getafe the edge. "My agent is dealing with these things but what I can confirm is that I want to play in Spain and not in another country," Valdes said in AS. Valdez is currently away at the Copa America, where he has helped Paraguay reach the final, and is expected to sort out his future on his return from the tournament. Former Werder Bremen striker Valdez joined unfashionable Hercules from Borussia Dortmund last summer for €3.5million but could not prevent the club from being relegated.
