Martinez does not want to solve personal issues right now

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has remained coy about handing goalkeeper Chris Kirkland a new contract after his current one expires in the summer. Kirkland has just returned to the Latics after suffering a back injury after only one game of a loan spell at Doncaster Rovers. On Wednesday the 30-year-old said that he is determined to win back his place as the first-choice goalkeeper at the DW Stadium from Ali Al Habsi and that he is eyeing a new deal at Wigan. However, Martinez has declined to enter into contract negotiations with the injury-prone custodian at the moment. "It's too early for that," said the 38-year-old. "Chris is back from Doncaster at the moment and we need to get him fully fit and make sure in this period we concentrate on the run of the team. "We're in a negative run of results and we need to change that, and all the personal situations are going to be dealt with accordingly over the next few months." Wigan are currently second from bottom in the Premier League table with five points from nine matches.
