Sunderland striker Victor Anichebe has been ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a knee injury.

The 28-year-old sustained the injury in his side's 2-0 defeat to West Brom at the Hawthorns on Saturday. He picked up the injury as his shot was blocked shortly after coming on as a substitute.

Anichebe signed a one-year deal with Sunderland in September 2016 and has scored three goals in 11 Premier League appearances.

He was making his comeback from a hamstring injury that had kept him out since New Year's Eve at the weekend but now faces a further spell on the sidelines.

Anichebe joins a number of first-team players who are missing for Sunderland due to injury, while others are away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
