Sunderland have released Carlos Cuellar, Oscar Ustari and Keiren Westwood at the end of their contracts.
It has also been agreed that defender Andrea Dossena will leave before the final year of his deal.
The departures give Gus Poyet the chance to reshape his squad after narrowly avoiding the drop last season.
