Saido Berahino desperate to right wrongs at Stoke

Saido Berahino says he wants to get his career back on track at Stoke.

Saido Berahino says he is determined to get his career back on track and help Stoke return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

A difficult season saw the 24-year-old make the headlines for the wrong reasons after he was banished from the first-team squad by former manager Paul Lambert following disciplinary issues.

Limited playing time extended the striker's goal drought to more than two years, with his last goal coming in February 2016, but Berahino insists he can return to form with the newly-relegated Stoke.

"I have made some mistakes. I have let myself and the people around me down," Berahino told Sky Sports News.

"But it's part of life and you have got to try and better yourself every day and try to improve as a player.

"I want to try and do the best I can to help the team, obviously, and put Stoke back where it belongs."

Yet to score a senior goal for the Potters since his £15m move from West Brom in January 2017, Berahino is looking to put that right as he focuses on getting into peak physical condition ahead of next season.

"It's very very hard coming in, knowing that you can score goals but it hasn't happened," he said.

"I beat myself down about it the most.

"You still have to come into training and try and put it right and work hard at it every day.

"I try and do that. I try to come into training and practise at scoring goals.

"It hasn't been easy, but at the same time there is always a light at the end of the tunnel."

The former England youth international insists he and his team-mates are intent on mounting an immediate return to the Premier League under new boss Gary Rowett.

"They have been in the Premier League for the past 10 years and they have been doing really well," said Berahino.

"We are all disappointed with the fact that we let a lot of people down.

"Now it is time for us, as players and staff, to put the club right back where it belongs."
