Burnley's Tom Heaton faces months out with dislocated shoulder

Sean Dyche fears Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton could be sidelined for months with a dislocated shoulder

Burnley manager Sean Dyche fears goalkeeper Tom Heaton could be sidelined for months after suffering a suspected dislocated shoulder in Sunday's win over Crystal Palace.

The England international was injured after landing awkwardly following a collision with team-mate Ben Mee during the first half of the Premier League game at Turf Moor, which the Clarets won 1-0 thanks to Chris Wood's early goal.

When asked about the injury, Dyche replied: "[It is] a suspected dislocated shoulder. So we'll have to wait and see. That is obviously the downside of the day because he has been fantastic for us.

"If it is, that it is obviously not weeks. It will be more like months. I don't know - I am not a medic - I don't imagine it is a few weeks that is for sure."

Heaton was replaced by Nick Pope, who made his Premier League debut, and he drew praise from Dyche for an excellent save from Christian Benteke late on which helped preserve three points for Burnley.

"Technically, that was a fantastic save," he said. "He shortened the pitch to go at the ball and I thought he did very well."

And Pope is eager to seize his chance to impress with Heaton out.

Pope said: "When I came to Burnley I wanted to play games. That's what you dream about as a player - you don't dream of sitting on the bench.

"As a goalkeeper coming off the bench is one of the hardest things you can do so to come on and get the clean sheet and the win, we're over the moon.

"All the back four worked really hard as a unit and made last-ditch tackles and blocks. They were awesome in front of me and you need that when you come under pressure against top teams."
