Norwich City manager Neil Adams was delighted to see smiles back on faces at Carrow Road as his side finally produced an emphatic home performance to hammer 10-man Huddersfield 5-0.

The Canaries had won just one in seven in their own back yard before this fixture but put that poor record firmly to bed as they ran riot after the break to move to within two points off the play-off zone.

"We have dropped too many points at home, there's no doubt about that," said Adams. "Away from home we have done okay, but here we have drawn five games and that has cost us.

"It was important today that we let everyone know what we are capable of. Yes it was against 10 men but as we have seen so many times in the past that is not always easy. You have got to go out and do it.

"In the end it was reminiscent of the flowing football we played earlier in the season and we can now go to Derby full of confidence next weekend. We'll be going there to win, that will never change.

"We set the team up to be solid, as we did at Wigan last week, and now it's six points in two games, and two clean sheets.

Norwich ran riot in the second half to put their poor home form firmly behind them with a 5-0 drubbing of 10-man Huddersfield

"We were solid and structured throughout. We didn't want to make it difficult for ourselves by giving the opposition a head start and in the end if went perfectly to plan."

The game turned in the 17th minute when Huddersfield were reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of defender Murray Wallace.

He was shown a red card for hauling down Cameron Jerome when he had a clear run on goal and although the Terriers held out until half-time the floodgates opened upon resumption.

Norwich were ahead within 46 seconds when Gary Hooper set up Bradley Johnson and quickly made it two, with half-time substitute Nathan Redmond heading home Martin Olsson's cross.

By the 50th minute it was 3-0, with Johnson pouncing on a blocked shot from Jonny Howson to fire home and it was then merely a question of how many the hosts would score, with Cameron Jerome (67) and substitute Lewis Grabban (77) making it five.

Huddersfield boss Chris Powell was bitterly disappointed with the way his side collapsed at the start of the second period.

"You can't start that way in any game of football and expect to get anything from it," he said. "It was so unlike us. In the first half I thought we coped okay with going a man down but after the break we weren't at it and we got punished.

"Now I have got to pick them up and then we'll go again. I have certainly got some decisions to make about my next team."

Powell accepted that defender Wallace had to go.

"We didn't deal with the first ball and we certainly didn't deal with the second. The referee had a decision to make - and it was the correct one."
